La exposición prenatal al misoprostol se ha asociado con la ocurrencia de defectos transversos terminales en miembros superiores e inferiores: gastroquisis, hipodactilia e hipoglosia entre otros defectos congénitos. El mecanismo de acción del misoprostol como agente teratogénico ha sido atribuido a un proceso de disrupción vascular con alteración del flujo sanguíneo al feto, lo cual deriva en perfusión inadecuada, hipoxia y hemorragia. Se presenta este caso de niño de dos años de edad con defectos transversos terminales de miembros superiores e inferiores cuya madre utilizó misoprostol en el primer trimestre del embarazo con fines abortivos. Se realiza esta investigación con el objetivo de brindar información sobre los efectos teratogénicos del Misoprostol y alertar sobre las posibles consecuencias de la continuación del embarazo después de su uso con fines abortivos para prevenir el nacimiento de niños con defectos congénitos incompatibles para la vida o con discapacidad permanente.

Prenatal exposure to misoprostol has been associated with the occurrence of terminals transverse defects in upper and lower limbs such as gastroschisis, hypodactilia, and hypoglosia among other birth defects. Misoprostol action mechanism as teratogenic agent has been attributed to a process of vascular disruption with impaired blood flow to the fetus, which results in inadequate perfusion, hypoxia, and hemorrhage. Here a case of a two-year old boy with terminal transverse defects in his upper and lower limbs is presented. His mother used misoprostol in the first trimester of pregnancy with abortive purposes. This research aims to provide information on misoprostol teratogenic effects and to warn on the possible consequences of continuing pregnancy after using misoprostol as abortifacients, thus, to prevent the birth of children with incompatible birth defects for life, or permanent disability.

Giant Mucinous Ovarian Tumor of Low Malignant Potential

Los tumores de ovario de bajo grado de malignidad o "borderline", se originan del epitelio de este órgano y tienen un comportamiento biológico intermedio entre las lesiones malignas y benignas del ovario. El estudio se realizó con el objetivo de profundizar en el diagnóstico y la conducta terapéutica de esta infrecuente afección nosológica. Se presenta un caso clínico atendido en el servicio de Cirugía General del Hospital General Docente "Leopoldito Martínez", en San José de las Lajas, provincia Mayabeque. No se identificaron signos patológicos. Se identificó vulva y vagina sin alteraciones. El diagnóstico se estableció por el examen histopatológico y el tratamiento quirúrgico fue radical.

Ovarian tumors of low malignant potential or "borderline" originate from the epithelium of this body and they have an intermediate biological behavior between malignant and benign ovarian lesions. This study aims to deepen the diagnosis and therapeutic management of this uncommon nosological condition. A clinical case is presented here. This patient was treated at the Department of General Surgery, at Leopoldito Martinez General Teaching Hospital in San José de las Lajas, Mayabeque province. No pathological signs were identified. Vulva and vagina had no alterations. The diagnosis was established by histopathological examination and surgical treatment was radical.
