Se identifican las tendencias principales que matizan el cambio de los enfoques de trabajo de las organizaciones, en general, y de las instituciones de información en particular. Para esto se consultó un conjunto de fuentes documentales pertenecientes tanto a los sectores de la industria y el comercio como a los de la salud y la información. Las tendencias fundamentales que se hallaron fueron: el desarrollo de una poderosa infraestructura tecnológica; la adopción de un enfoque mercadológico en la actividad; el suministro de productos y servicios de información de alto valor agregado; la evaluación de los productos y servicios de información; el diseño funcional de la organización; la reorganización de los recursos humanos; la introducción de una concepción gerencial; la creación de sistemas de calidad; la formación de fondos y la organización de los recursos orientados al usuario; así como el desarrollo de la educación permanente y de las investigaciones. Las tendencias encontradas constituyen un modelo para el desarrollo de la actividad educativa en el sector.<hr/>The current decade is characterized by the ocurrence of significant changes in the information-librarian sectors. The main trends that harmonize the change of work approches of the organizations, in general, and of the information institutions, in particular, are identified. With this aim, a number of documentary sources belonging to the industry and trade sectors and also to the health and information sector were consulted. The main trends that were found are as follows: the development of a powerful technological infraestructure; the adoption of a marketing approach in the activity; the supply of informations products and services of a high added value; the assessment of information products and services; the functional design of the organization; the reorganization of human resources; the introduction of a management concept; the creation of quality systems; the forming of funds and the organization of resources oriented to the user as well as the development of permanent education and researches. Basada en el principio del metadato, esta norma norteamericana propone un servicio de localización de información que permite descubrir, identificar, describir y acceder, directamente, a los recursos de información disponibles en Internet a partir de normas internacionales de búsqueda e intercambio de información. Asimismo, se da a conocer el Localizador de Información de salud, una aplicación del Government Information Locator Service en el sector de salud latinoamericano, proyecto desarrollado por el Sistema Latinoamericano y del Caribe de Información en Ciencias de la Salud, a fin de adecuarse a las actuales necesidades derivadas de la implantación del nuevo paradigma de sistema de información que representa Internet y de mejorar la eficiencia de la recuperación de información.<hr/>The Government Information Locator Service, one of the latest technologies of information adopted by its strategic nature to solve the disorganization of Internet and the deficiencies of the search tools is presented. Based on the metadatum principle, this US standard offers a service to locate information that alows to discover, identify, describe and to accede directly to the information resources available in Internet starting from international standards of search and information exchange. Likewise, the Health Information Locator is made known. This is an application of GILS in the Latin American health sector, a project developed by the Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Information System in order to meet the present needs derived from the introduction of the new paradigm of information system represented by Internet and to improve the efficiency of information retrieval. http://scielo.sld.cu/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&pid=S1024-94352000000100004&lng=es&nrm=iso&tlng=es Con el objetivo de ofrecer una vía de comunicación para favorecer el intercambio de información y de experiencias, se elaboró en el Centro Nacional de Toxicología un modelo que recoge datos personales y profesionales de los especialistas dedicados a la toxicología, el cual se envió a las instituciones registradas en el país que cuentan con recursos humanos vinculados a la actividad. La información obtenida se recopiló en una base de datos soportada en el sistema automatizado ISIS 3.07, con el objeto de confeccionar un "Directorio Nacional de Profesionales e Instituciones" afines. La primera edición de este Directorio", realizada por la Editorial Ciencias Médicas, contiene datos de 209 especialistas y consta de cinco partes: cuerpo, nombre, provincias, instituciones y líneas de trabajo o temáticas, las que se encuentran ordenadas alfabéticamente. Este documento constituye una herramienta de trabajo que puede ser explotada por quienes se dedican tanto a ésta como a otras ramas de las ciencias médicas. Además de dar a conocer el potencial humano de la disciplina, esta base de datos, instalada en la Red Telemática de Salud en Cuba (INFOMED), permitiría un ahorro de insumos, de fuerza laboral y de consumo eléctrico, y reportaría beneficios económicos y sociales al país.<hr/>In order to offer a way of communication that favors the exchange of information and experiences, the National Toxicology Center creates a form to collect the personal and professional data of Toxicology specialists and send it to those institutions in the country that have human resourses connected with this activity. The information gathered was entered in a data base supported on the ISIS 3.07 automated system aimed at making a National Directory of Related Professionals and Institutions. The first edition of this Directory was made by the Editorial Ciencias Médicas and includes data of 209 specialists. It has 5 parts: body, name, provinces, institution and working line or topics, wich are alphabetically ordered. This document is a working tool that may be used by those who devote themselves to this and other branches of medical sciences.
