Knowledge management in the information organizations: measurement processes and methods

Se analizan los procesos estratégicos de la gestión del conocimiento específicamente en las organizaciones de información, con énfasis en el proceso de medición. Se identifican los métodos más importantes para medir el conocimiento. Se reflexiona sobre cuales pueden utilizarse en las organizaciones de información. A partir de criterios preestablecidos, se comenta una comparación realizada entre varias metodologías de medición, que muestra, en forma general, su aplicación en las organizaciones de información.

The strategic processes of knowledge management, specifically in the information organizations, are analyzed making emphasis on the process of measurement. The most important methods to measure knowledge are identified. Reflections are made on how they can be used in information organizations. Based on preestablished criteria, a comparison made among several measurement methodologies, which shows in a general way their application in the organizations of information, is commented.

Syndication of contents with RSS channels: present applications and tendencies

La sindicación de contenidos por medio de canales RSS es un método contemporáneo para distribuir contenidos en el Web que posibilita a los usuarios acceder sólo a los contenidos de su interés sin necesidad de navegar de una página a otra. Para los proveedores de contenidos, constituye un método de personalizar sus servicios y atraer usuarios a sus sitios Web. Se aborda una serie de aspectos generales sobre los canales RSS, su origen y evolución y se ofrecen ejemplos de sus aplicaciones actuales en revistas y medios de comunicación, entornos educativos, sitios comerciales e instituciones de información. Se enuncian también algunas tendencias recientes en su utilización, no sólo para distribuir textos, sino para otros contenidos multimedia como audio y video. Se destaca la tendencia a la expansión y diversificación en su uso.

The syndication of contents through RSS channels is a contemporary method of content distribution in the Web that enables the users to access only to the contents of their interest with no need to surf from one page to another. For content suppliers, it constitutes a method to personalize their services and to attract users to their websites. General aspects on the RSS channels, as well as their origin and evolution, are analyzed. Examples of their present applications in magazines, mass media, educational environments, commercial centres and information institutions are given. Some recent trends in its use, not only to distribute texts, but also other multimedia contents such as audio and video, are stated. The tendency towards the expansion and diversification of its use is emphasized.

Usefulness of the archive solutions for information management in the electronic systems of the health care sector

El documento archivístico es el subproducto documental de los actos o transacciones de la sociedad; por ello la garantía de su veracidad resulta esencial para el desarrollo ordenado de las relaciones humanas. Es por esto que su creación, mantenimiento y preservación siempre han estado condicionados por un conjunto de reglas que garantizan que dichos documentos puedan considerarse evidencia veraz de dichas transacciones. Se presentan algunos abordajes teóricos y soluciones prácticas para garantizar que los documentos archivísticos puedan considerarse evidencia confiable y autentica de transacciones en el ambiente electrónico. Asimismo, se aborda la utilidad que dichas soluciones tienen para la gestión de información en los sistemas electrónicos del sector de la salud, debido a la alta sensibilidad que tienen en dichos sistemas, la seguridad y la confidencialidad de la información.

The archival document is the documentary by-product of the acts or transactions of society; because of this, the guarantee of its veracity is essential for the organized development of the human relations. That's why their creation, maintenance and preservation have always been conditioned by a number of rules that guarantee that such documents can be considered a truthful evidence of these transactions. Some theoretical approaches and practical solutions are presented to assure that the archival documents can be considered a reliable and authentic evidence of the transactions in the electronic environment. Likewise, the usefulness these solutions have for the information management in the electronic systems of the health sector is dealt with, due to the importance the security and confidentiality of the information have.

The bibliological-informative literature in Cuba : Part II. XX century domain analysis

Se presentan las etapas que se identifican en el desarrollo de la literatura bibliológico-informativa cubana, así como sus peculiaridades y una descripción de las condiciones económicas, políticas, históricas y culturales que las sustentan.

The stages identified in the development of the Cuban bibliological-informative literature, as well as their peculiarities and a description of the economic, political, historical, and cultural conditions supporting them are presented.

Contribution to the history of the Cuban bibliography on Ophthalmology

Se citan los primeros textos que registraron información relativa a las enfermedades de los ojos en el mundo antiguo y se indica el contenido de las obras que inauguraron la bibliografía sobre Oftalmología al nivel internacional a raíz de la invención de la imprenta, hasta las producidas en los inicios de la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Se dan a conocer las primeras referencias sobre la producción bibliográfica en esta disciplina en la isla de Cuba, así como los primeros artículos de carácter verdaderamente científico relacionados con ella, que guardan las páginas de la primera revista médica que se editó en el territorio nacional. Se realiza un breve análisis del primer libro escrito en lengua española consagrado exclusivamente a la Oftalmología, el cual fue redactado, editado y publicado en dos tomos en La Habana. Se hace referencia a otros trabajos de autores cubanos relacionados con las afecciones oculares, que por su importancia han trascendido en el tiempo y se mencionan los títulos de las revistas nacionales especializadas en esta materia, producidas durante el siglo XX.

The first texts that registered information related to eye illnesses in the ancient world are cited, and the content of the works that paved the way of the ophthalmologic bibliography at the international level, from the invention of the printing press to those published in the second half of the XIX century, is revealed. The first references to the bibliographic production on this discipline in Cuba are mentioned, as well as the first articles of a true scientific character related to it, found in the pages of the first medical journal edited in the island. A brief analysis is made of the first book written in Spanish exclusively dedicated to eye affections, which was written, edited and published in two volumes, in Havana. Reference is made to other works of Cuban authors related to eye illnesses that due to their importance have gone beyond the time. The titles of the national magazines specialized in this topic that were published during the XX century are also mentioned.

The Web portal content management

Se presentan algunas consideraciones sobre el estado actual de la gestión de contenidos en portales Web; así como la relación e importancia en la organización y su puesta en práctica a partir de las herramientas de software libre. Se abordan las competencias que posee el profesional de la información para desarrollar esta labor de gestión en la era de la sociedad de la información. La gestión de contenidos es una de las funciones más importantes del profesional de la información. En el contexto de Internet y los portales Web, la tarea de estos profesionales es gestionar la información para que esta llegue a los usuarios adecuados de forma adecuada y en el tiempo adecuado.

Some considerations on the present status of the Web portal content management, as well as the relation and importance in the organization, and its implementation starting from the free software tools, are presented. The competences of the information professional to develop this management work in the era of the information society are approached. It is concluded that the Web content management is one of the most important functions of the information professional. In the Internet and Web portal contexts, the task of these professional is to manage the information so that the adequate users receive it properly and in due time.

Design of informational literacy programs

Selection of Web sites and portals specialized in the conservation and restoration of documents

Se creó un directorio con el objetivo de facilitar la búsqueda de bibliografía, instituciones y autores que desarrollan sitios sobre el tema de la conservación de documentos. Para la selección de estos sitios, el Grupo de Conservación de la Biblioteca Médica Nacional consideró 5 criterios fundamentales: exactitud, autoría, objetividad, actualidad y cubrimiento temático. Cada sitio seleccionado, posteriormente se revisó y reseñó su contenido.

A directory was created aimed at facilitating the search for bibliography, institutions and authors that develop websites devoted to document conservation. For the selection of this websites, the National Medical Library Conservation Group took into account 5 fundamental criteria: accuracy, authorship, objectivity, up-to-dateness, and thematic coverage. All the selected Websites were reviewed and their content was briefly described.
