En el estudio diagnóstico realizado por los profesores de la disciplina Historia en la Facultad de Tecnología de la Salud en Villa Clara, se detectaron las necesidades de literatura docente, bibliografía y materiales para facilitar la comprensión de los contenidos que se imparten en la asignaturaHistoria de Cuba, lo que afecta la calidad del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje. Se utilizaron en la investigación métodos de nivel teórico como el tránsito de lo concreto a lo abstracto, histórico-lógico, sistémico_estructural, inductivo_deductivo, analítico_sintético y la modelación; y del nivel empírico: análisis de documentos, observación, entrevista, encuesta. A partir de sus resultados se elabora un software multimedia educativo, Cubanahis, que sirve como medio de enseñanza para la clase, el estudio independiente y de soporte bibliográfico de la asignatura, además propicia la asequibilidad y comprensión en la asimilación de contenidos con cierto nivel de complejidad, lo que garantiza un aprendizaje desarrollador.

The diagnostic study carried out by the professors of the History of Cuba discipline in the Health Technology Faculty in Villa Clara detected the necessity of teaching literature, bibliography and material aids to facilitate the comprehension of contents present in the History of Cuba subject which affect the teaching-learning process. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, for instance, from the abstract level to the concrete one, historical logical, systemic_structural, inductive_deductive, analytical_synthetically and modeling; analysis of documents, observation, interview and surveys. According to their results it was elaborated a multi-media educative software "Cubanahis" which serves as a class teaching aid, the independent study and bibliographic support of the subject, besides, it facilitates the assimilation and comprehension of difficult contents and the grasping of a meaningful learning.

Guiding reflections about the special Didactics in the clinical subjects

El trabajo tiene como finalidad describir los elementos distintivos del proceso enseñanza aprendizaje de las asignaturas clínicas, para lo cual se emplearon métodos empíricos (revisión documental) y teóricos (análisis y síntesis, inducción-deducción y el sistémico estructural funcional). Se caracterizan los componentes personales y procesales del proceso enseñanza aprendizaje en estas asignaturas, a partir del rol que asumen en el currículo. La Didáctica Especial implica la aplicación de los conceptos y principios generales de la Didáctica, a las condiciones en que acontece el proceso enseñanza aprendizaje: los escenarios docentes son los propios servicios del proceso atencional, y la personalidad del estudiante se transforma al interactuar con el objeto de la profesión. Se requiere de una correcta preparación del profesorado y de la presencia de una labor metodológica que intencione las investigaciones en este campo, para contribuir a un mayor desarrollo de la educación médica cubana.

The objective of this work is to describe the distinctive features of the teaching-learning process of the clinical subjects. Empirical methods were used (review of documents) and theoretical methods (analysis-synthesis, induction-deduction and structural- systemic). The outcomes are presented in items. It was carried out a characterization of the personal and the process components of the teaching-learning process of these subjects; supported by the foundations of the curricular theory. The special didactics of the clinics implies the application of principles and concepts of the general didactics, to the real conditions where the medical cares occur, and the transformation of the student´s personality occurs during the interaction with the ill people. A correct preparation is required on the part of the professors as well as the presence of a good methodological work which encourages carrying out research works in this field, to contribute to a greater development of the Cuban medical education.

Historical moments of the Medicine Faculty in East Timor

Se realiza un estudio de corte pedagógico, con el objetivo de precisar momentos históricos de la Facultad de Medicina de Timor Leste. Los datos se obtuvieron a través de la observación, entrevista a informantes claves y la revisión documental. Con la participación de los profesionales de la brigada médica cubana en el mencionado país, se ejecutó el nuevo programa de formación de médicos, el cual se había iniciado en la Universidad Barrio Adentro de la República Bolivariana de Venezuela y en las facultades inauguradas para la formación de médicos de Cuba, y el resto del mundo. Con relación al postgrado se logró la formación de 100 residentes cubanos como especialistas en Medicina General Integral y dos versiones del diplomado en Educación Médica.

A pedagogical study was carried out with the objective to determine the historical moments of the Medicine Faculty in East Timor. The data were collected through the observation, interviews and documents review, with the participation of the professionals of the Cuban medical brigade in this country. A new program for the formation of doctors was carried out; it had started in the Inside the Neighborhood University in the Venezuelan Republic and in the faculties for the formation of doctors in Cuba, and in the rest of the world. In relation to the postgraduate, a hundred Cuban specialists were formed as residents in Integral General Medicine and two versions of the specialized course in medical education.

Didactics conceptions of the logical structure of the system of abilities of the Pediatrics subject

La Escuela Médica Cubana tiene la tarea de preparar la fuerza científica necesaria para resolver los problemas de salud que presenta la población, con una elevada calidad y humanismo. Sin embargo, se manifiestan algunas insuficiencias en la formación de las habilidades profesionales del egresado respecto a su atención al niño y al adolescente. El trabajo tiene como objetivo elaborar una concepción de estructuración lógica del sistema de habilidades para la asignatura de Pediatría en la formación del médico general que contribuya a una mejor atención a los niños y adolescentes. Se emplean métodos teóricos, empíricos y estadísticos. Se concluye con una concepción didáctica que integra lo organizacional y lo desarrollador en la estructuración del sistema de habilidades en la asignatura Pediatría, así como el principio didáctico a partir del cual se realiza el cual redunda en un proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje redimensionado y en una atención pediátrica de calidad.

The Cuban Medical School should prepare the necessary scientific forces to solve the health problems of the population. However, there are insufficiencies in the formation of abilities of the future General Practitioner, which affect the proper performance in the attention to adolescents and children. The objective of this work is to elaborate a conception of the logical structure of the system of abilities of the Pediatrics subject in the formation of General Practitioners which contribute to a better attention of adolescents and children. Theoretical, empirical and statistic methods are used. It is concluded with a didactic conception, which novelty is observed within the logical interrelation between the organizational an the developing features that are expressed in the system of abilities for this subject, and the didactic principle upon which it is structured, to get a well dimensioned teaching-learning process of the pediatric medical cares.

Management learning necessities in the head of the teaching departments in the central site

La superación continua de los cuadros que dirigen los procesos universitarios constituye una prioridad desde perspectivas científicas que propicien la integración de lo gerencial con lo técnico, lo metodológico y lo investigativo; en correspondencia con las particularidades de cada contexto. La Dirección de Cuadros de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara, ha identificado brechas en las competencias gerenciales de los jefes de departamentos docentes para el trabajo metodológico e investigativo, que fueron caracterizadas científicamente mediante un estudio descriptivo transversal con enfoque cualitativo realizado en 12 jefes de departamentos docentes de la sede central seleccionados mediante un muestreo no probabilístico; la aplicación combinada de métodos teóricos y empíricos permitió constatar necesidades de aprendizaje, expresadas y encubiertas, referidas al trabajo metodológico y la aplicación de la política científica departamental que sugieren la proyección de acciones de capacitación pertinentes e inmediatas.

The on & on upgrading of the leaders who lead the university processes is a priority from the scientific perspective which propitiates the integration of the scientific and managerial aspects, and the methodological and researching ones; according to the peculiarities of each contest. The board of managers of Villa Clara University of Medical sciences has identified problems in the managerial competences of the head of the teaching departments in the methodological and researching work, which were scientifically characterized in a descriptive cross-sectional study with a qualitative approach, on a non probabilistic sampling the head of 12 teaching departments of the central site were selected. There were applied theoretical and empirical methods which made possible to state implicit and explicit learning necessities in reference to the methodological work and the application of the scientific policy in the departments that suggest the design of immediate and pertinent qualifying actions.

Strategy for the improvement of the Master´s Course in medical Education in Villa Clara

La Maestría en Educación Médica que se ejecuta en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara desde 2002, ha desarrollado hasta el momento tres ediciones propias, y tiene como propósito perfeccionar el desempeño académico del profesorado. El estudio procura describir las características de la estrategia de perfeccionamiento elaborada a partir del diagnóstico realizado. Se emplearon métodos teóricos, empíricos y estadísticos; la triangulación metodológica a partir de los métodos empleados y los puntos de vista de los actores intervinientes permitió obtener una valoración integral de la realidad estudiada. La estrategia de perfeccionamiento tuvo en cuenta las limitantes identificadas y abarca un grupo de acciones que faciliten una mejor planificación, organización, ejecución y control de su puesta en marcha.

The Master´s Course in medical Education of Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences has developed three editions since 2002; its objective is to improve the professors' academic performance. The study describes the characteristics of the improvement strategy according to the results of the diagnoses. Empirical, theoretical and statistical methods were used; the information gathered and the points of view of the participants were contrasted, this allowed to rich an overall valuation of the object of study. The improvement strategy took into account the identified limitations and comprises a group of actions which facilitate a better planning, organization, execution and control of the strategy.

Methodological alternative to improve the acquisition of abilities in the Internal Medicine residents

Se realizó una investigación de desarrollo con enfoque cualitativo en el Hospital Universitario "Arnaldo Milián Castro" de Villa Clara en el período comprendido entre septiembre del 2008 hasta julio del 2010, con el propósito de diseñar varias acciones metodológicas para perfeccionar la adquisición de habilidades del residente de Medicina Interna que se forma en esta institución. El proceso indagatorio fue concebido en tres etapas: diagnóstico, diseño de las acciones metodológicas y valoración por criterio de especialistas del producto final. Las principales dificultades detectadas en la adquisición de habilidades fueron: dificultad en la lectura de EKG, habilidades técnicas deficientes, dificultad en las habilidades diagnósticas y terapéuticas y bajo rigor en la evaluación del residente. A partir del diagnóstico realizado se diseñaron alternativas metodológicas que fueron valoradas como pertinentes por los especialistas seleccionados.

A qualitative study was carried out at "Arnaldo Milián Castro" University Hospital of Villa Clara from September 2008 to July 2010, with the purpose to design a series of methodological actions to improve the acquisition of abilities in the Internal Medicine residents which are formed in this institution. The process was organized in three stages: Diagnoses, designing of methodological actions and the valuation of the final product by the Specialists' Criteria Method. The principal difficulties detected in the acquisition of abilities were: Difficulties in the reading of EKGs, insufficiency in technical abilities, difficulties in the diagnosed and therapeutic abilities of the residents. A series of methodological actions were design according to the diagnoses, they were valued as pertinent by the selected specialists.

Diagnoses for the design of an upgrading syllabus for the Nursing career tutors

Se realizó una investigación descriptiva transversal con el propósito de diagnosticar el nivel de preparación pedagógica de los tutores en la carrera Licenciatura en Enfermería de Sagua la Grande, a partir de la existencia de insuficiencias en el desempeño de los tutores en el asesoramiento de las investigaciones estudiantiles, preparación y desarrollo de las actividades docentes, y diagnóstico individual de los estudiantes tutorados. El universo de estudio estuvo constituido por 57 tutores, de los cuales se seleccionó una muestra de 20 por muestreo no probabilístico por criterios. Para la recogida de datos se aplicaron métodos, técnicas e instrumentos. Se observó predominio de una baja preparación desde el punto de vista de las funciones docentes, por carencia de superación pedagógica. Los tutores declararon tener un estado de preparación bajo para la realización de la labor investigativa. Los metodólogos entrevistados propusieron la ejecución de un plan de superación para suplir las necesidades identificadas.

A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with the purpose to diagnose the level of pedagogical preparation of the Nursing career tutors in Sagua la Grande, there were found insufficiencies in the performance of tutors to advise the student´s research works, preparation and development of teaching activities and in the diagnosis of the students under tutelage. The universe of study was composed by 57 tutors. There were applied different methods and techniques on a non probabilistic sampling of 20 tutors selected by criteria. A law preparation of the teaching functions was observed, due to an inadequate pedagogical upgrading. The tutors declared that they had a law preparation to carry out the researching activity, the methodologist who were interviewed proposed to start an upgrading plan to cope with the identified necessities.

Teaching strategy to interrelate the contents with the requirements of the professional model

Introducción: se presenta una estrategia docente para lograr una mayor vinculación de los contenidos con los requerimientos del modelo profesional en el perfil Sistemas de Información en Salud, que tuvo como antecedente una investigación anterior donde se precisaron causas de bajas y desmotivación. Para ello se revisó el currículo de la carrera, las indicaciones metodológicas y de organización y resoluciones y orientaciones metodológicas del Ministerio de Educación Superior. Objetivo: elaborar una estrategia docente para lograr una mayor vinculación de los contenidos con los requerimientos del modelo profesional en el perfil Sistemas de Información en Salud. Métodos: se emplearon métodos teóricos como el histórico-lógico, analítico-sintético e inductivo-deductivo. Como métodos empíricos, análisis de documentos y la observación. Resultados: se diseña una estrategia docente que propicia el desarrollo de conocimientos y habilidades asociadas con las funciones del egresado y los llamados problemas profesionales a resolver, con inclusión de actividades de extensión universitaria, que facilitan la participación en diferentes manifestaciones culturales y deportivas que permitan la recreación y elevación de su nivel cultural general. Todo ello propiciará una mejor motivación del estudiantado. Conclusiones: la estrategia se corresponde con el diagnóstico realizado y los problemas que se afrontan, y contribuye al desarrollo de las competencias declaradas en el perfil, y que le permitirán adoptar decisiones acordes al contexto social-laboral.

Introduction: a teaching strategy is carried out to achieve a greater interrelation of the contents with the requirements of the professional model in the Health Information Systems career. This one has its bases on a previous research work where the lack of motivation and the causes why the students drop out the career were diagnosed. The curriculum of the career, methodological and organizational regulations and the methodological guidelines of the Higher Education Ministry were reviewed. Objectives: to elaborate a teaching strategy to achieve a greater interrelation of the contents with the requirements of the professional model in the Health Information Systems career. Methods: there were used theoretical methods such as historical-logical, analytic-synthetic and inductive-deductive. And the empiric methods used were: analysis of documents and the observation. Outcomes: a teaching strategy is design to facilitate the knowledge development and the associated skills with the graduate functions and the so called professional problems to be solved, including extracurricular university activities, which facilitate the participation in different sports and cultural activities that allow the elevation of their general culture, propitiating a greater motivation in the students. Conclusions: the strategy matches the problems detected in the diagnoses and contributes to the development of their professional competences which allow them to take decisions according to the socio-working context.

Historical review of the graduated students in Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences. (1968-2010)

El trabajo procura caracterizar el comportamiento de la culminación de estudios del capital humano en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara entre los años 1968 y 2010, como expresión de toda la trayectoria de este alto centro de estudios. El trabajo incluye información referida no solo a los estudiantes cubanos, sino también a los graduados de la Escuela de Medicina Latinoamericana (ELAM), del continente africano y estudiantes de otros orígenes geográficos. En este sentido, el estudio aporta elementos para medir la contribución de la citada institución en las prácticas solidarias que han permitido graduar en Cuba a miles de profesionales de la salud, preferentemente de países hermanos del Tercer Mundo. Esta memoria se apoya en el análisis de rigurosos conteos estadísticos reflejados en documentos de la Secretaría General de la Universidad, con la aspiración de proporcionar al usuario herramientas objetivas para apreciar los resultados de su devenir histórico.

The purpose of this work is to review the behavior of the human resources that have finished their studies in Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences from 1968 to 2010, the information that this work contains not only includes Cuban students but also about graduates from the Latin-American School of Medicine, the African continent as well as other parts of the world. This study possesses elements to measure the contribution of this institution to the solidaristic practices which have permitted to graduate thousands of health professionals in Cuba, preferably from fellow third world countries. This memory is based on the analysis of rigorous statistic counting reflected in documents of the General Secretariat of the university, with the aspiration to facilitate an objective tool to the users to appreciate the outcomes of the historical evolution.

The formation of human resources in the stomatologic attention in Villa Clara

El presente trabajo resultó de una investigación descriptiva con enfoque histórico-lógico llevada a cabo en la Facultad de Tecnología de la Salud "Julio Trigo López" de Villa Clara, desde el curso 1985-1986 hasta 2009-2010, consistió en una revisión documental sobre la historia, formación y evolución del personal técnico de apoyo al estomatólogo. Se emplearon métodos del nivel teórico: histórico-lógico, analítico-sintético e inductivo-deductivo y del empírico: análisis documental para consultar los planes de estudio, la fundamentación de la carrera y el registro nominal de graduados de forma escalonada (formación de la asistente dental, el técnico medio y el licenciado en atención estomatológica) con el objetivo de describir la historia de esta especialidad en la provincia y determinar su número de egresados hasta la fecha. El estudio permitió conocer las diferentes etapas por las que ha transitado este proceso a partir de sus transformaciones curriculares, y valorar el salto cualitativo que generó el diseño progresivo de su formación.

The current work was based on a previous descriptive research work that had a historical-logical approach which was carried out in Villa Clara Health Technology Faculty from the academic year1985-1986 to 2009-2010; it was a documental review about the history, formation and evolution of the technical personnel which bach up odontologists in their work. Theoretical methods were used such as: Historical-logical, anatytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive. Empirical methods were also used: Documental analysis so as to consult the study plans, the foundations of the career and the register of graduated students, (the formation of dental assistants, dental technicians and the Bachelor in Stomatologic Attention) with the objective to describe the history of the specialty in the province and to determine the number of graduated students up to the current date. The study allowed to know the different stages of this process as well as the curricular transformations and to assess the qualitative advancing steps which generated its progressive formation.

The changes in the formation of human resources for prosthodontics in Villa Clara

La formación del capital humano dedicado a la confección de las prótesis estomatológicas con una preparación política-ideológica, ética y científica según los principios de sociedad cubana, incide en la eficacia de los graduados y en el aumento de la calidad de vida de la población. Este trabajo realizado por docentes de la Facultad de Tecnología de la Salud "Julio Trigo López" consistió en una investigación descriptiva con enfoque histórico lógico y resume las etapas fundamentales por las que transitó este proceso en Villa Clara desde 1977 hasta 2010. Los datos fueron obtenidos a partir de un análisis documental de los hechos históricos, se consultó el registro nominal de graduados, los planes de estudio y la fundamentación para la carrera de Técnicos Medios y Licenciados en Prótesis Estomatológica. El procesamiento de la información analizada permitió apreciar que esta especialidad ha tenido un creciente desarrollo durante el período estudiado.

The formation of prosthodontists with a political-ideological, ethical and scientific preparation according to the principles of the revolution have a great incidence in the efficiency of this personnel as well as in the elevation of life quality in the population. This work was carried out by the professors of "Julio Trigo López" Health Technology Faculty. This is a descriptive research work with a historical-logical approach. It summarizes the different stages of the research work in Villa Clara in the period from 1977 to 2010. The data was collected through the analysis of documents of the historical events, there were consulted the records of graduated students, the study plans and the foundation of the prosthodontics career for technicians and bachelors. The analysis of the information showed that this specialty has had a steady development during this period.

The formation of values through the defense of the national identity and other Cuban alternatives

El presente trabajo responde a una investigación acción- participación en la que se validan sus resultados con periodicidad aplicando instrumentos científicos como la observación, entrevista y la encuesta, además de los informes de balance del proceso educativo realizados en las carreras y otros órganos colectivos de trabajo, tiene el objetivo de reflexionar acerca de nuevas alternativas didácticas y las experiencias positivas de su aplicación en la formación de valores con los jóvenes universitarios de la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara, en tiempos de complejidad. Contiene una caracterización de las principales circunstancias de los últimos tiempos en Cuba, fundamenta la importancia de preservar la memoria histórica como elemento de referencia obligada ante cualquier desorientación en los valores juveniles y propone diferentes vías o alternativas, con estilos y métodos atemperados a la realidad, los cuales contribuyen a continuar la educación en valores de los futuros profesionales de la salud villaclareños.

The objective of this work is to reflect upon new didactic alternatives and the positive experiences of its application in the formation of values of the young university students of Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences, in complex times. It contains a characterization of the principal circumstances and the last changes in Cuba and the repercussion they have had in the youngsters of the current generation. It states the importance to preserve the historical memory as an element of necessary reference to face any disorientation of the youngsters´ values and to propose different alternatives using methods and styles which cope with the reality and the characteristics of our youth at present, which pedagogically and in a correct intelligent manner contribute to continue the education in values of the future health professionals in Villa Clara.

Pertinence of Pharmacology evaluation system in the 3rd year of Medicine Career

El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo analizar de forma crítica la pertinencia del sistema de evaluación vigente del programa Farmacología II. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo con metodología cualitativa. Se detecta que el sistema de evaluación expone la integración de los contenidos de las asignaturas implicadas, pero en forma coordinada y no integrada. Es necesario insertarlos dentro de los de Medicina Interna como asignatura rectora del semestre; aún cumplido esto, surgen las siguientes disyuntivas: ¿Cómo evaluar? ¿Cómo emitir una nota para las asignaturas, por separado? ¿Cómo elaborar la clave y la tabla de decisiones?; estas interrogantes no quedan totalmente esclarecidas en el sistema de evaluación del programa. Las opiniones de alumnos y profesores reflejan deficiencias e inconformidad con el sistema de evaluación y sugieren la implementación de modificaciones aprobados por el Ministerio de Educación y la Vicedirección de desarrollo, planes y programas de estudio de la carrera de Medicina.

The objective of the present study was to analyze in a written form the pertinence of the existing evaluation system in Pharmacology II program. A descriptive study with a qualitative methodology was done. It was detected that the evaluation system shows the integration of contents in the implied subjects in a coordinated but not integrated form. It is necessary to integrate them in Internal Medicine as the guided subject in the semester; even so, new disjunctives come up. How do we evaluate? How do we give a mark for each subject? How do we elaborate an evaluation Key and a decision table? All these questions are not so clearly answered in the evaluation system of the program. Students' and teachers' opinions show deficiencies and dissatisfaction with the evaluation system and they suggest the implementation of the approved modifications of Education Ministry and the Vice-direction of development, plans and syllabus for the Medicine career.

The historical researching under the scope of history as a science and as an academic discipline

Los profesionales de la salud deben ponderar el papel de la Historia en el proceso formativo en las ciencias de la salud, porque juega un papel fundamental como fuente imprescindible para la formación ideológica y profesional de sus educandos. Se realizó la preparación de una conferencia pre evento con vistas al fórum estudiantil de Historia, los eventos municipales patriótico-militar y juvenil martiano en la Filial de Ciencias Médicas "Lidia Doce Sánchez" en el curso escolar 2010-2011; con el propósito de argumentar por qué la investigación histórica debe realizarse desde la óptica de la Historia como ciencia y como disciplina académica. La conferencia fue preparada por un grupo de profesores con una formación de base heterogénea para significar el valor de la Historia para cualquier profesional independientemente de su especialidad. La preparación de la actividad fue catalogada de excelente por un grupo de especialistas en ciencias sociales.

The health professionals should ponder the role of History in the formative process of the health sciences, because it plays an important role in the ideological and professional formation of the students. A pre-event lecture was prepared in Sagua medical college, for the History forum of the students, the municipality events about José Marti by youngsters and the patriotic-military event, in the academic year 2010-2011, with the objective to state why the historical research works should be done under the scope of history as a science and as an academic discipline. The lecture was prepared by a group of professors who have a heterogeneous formation to stand out the value of History for all professionals regardless the specialty they have. The preparation of this activity was considered as excellent by a group of social sciences specialists.
