Bosquejo histórico de la bibliografía cubana sobre estomatología

Con el presente trabajo se trata de celebrar el 35 aniversario de creada la Revista Cubana de Estomatología y el primer centenario de fundada la Escuela de Estomatología, hechos que tendrán lugar en los años 1999 y 2000, respectivamente. Con el propósito de ofrecer una modesta contribución al estudio de la historia de la bibliografía nacional de la especialidad, se hace una breve reseña de algunas de las publicaciones científicas que vieron la luz en Cuba durante el siglo XIX, y que constituyen las primeras manifestaciones del afán de los dentistas criollos por divulgar los resultados de sus investigaciones. A tal efecto, se describen los títulos de los primeros documentos publicados de la disciplina y se detallan las revistas que dieron nacimiento a la prensa especializada en la isla. Finalmente, se relacionan, según su año de aparición, los títulos de las publicaciones periódicas dentales producidas durante el siglo XX, antes de que surgiera la Revista Cubana de Estomatología en 1964.

The present paper is aimed at marking the 35 anniversary of the creation of the Revista Cubana de Estomatología, and at commemorating the first centenary of the foundation of the Stomatology School, events that will take place in 1999 and 2000, respectively. In order to make a modest contribution to the study of the history of the national bibliography of the speciality, it is made a brief review of some of the scientific publications that came out in Cuba during the XIX century, and that are the first manifestations of the effort of the Cuban dentists to make known the results of their investigations. To this end, the titles of the first documents published on this discipline are described, and details are given about those journals that gave rise to the specialized press in the island. Finally, the titles of the dental periodicals published in Cuba during the XX century are included according to the year of appearance until 1964 when the Revista Cubana de Estomatología was brought out.
