Designing a telematic network oriented to social groups as a platform for the development of their social network: Part I. Foundations of the network work

Se analizan los grupos sociales y su interacción con las redes telemáticas y se evalúan los distintos programas que les permiten comunicarse y colaborar. El centro del análisis se ubica en aquellos programas o herramientas informáticas, que pueden instalarse en servidores propios y que además clasifican como software libre.

The social groups and their interaction with the telematic networks are analyzed, and the different programs allowing them to communicate and cooperate are evaluated. The center of the analysis is found on those programs or computer tools that can be installed in own servers that also qualify as free software.

Se expone el diseño de una red telemática capaz de conectar todas las filiales de la institución utilizada como base para la implementación del modelo de plataforma informática propuesto, que se utiliza para la interconexión de las distintas redes sociales que conforman la institución. La plataforma creada permite de modo individual o grupal: la creación y edición de blogs a nivel corporativo, el chat corporativo, la creación, control, seguimiento de proyectos y la gerencia de actividades grupales e individuales; la creación del centro de enseñanza virtual de la institución, como un medio para potenciar el sistema de enseñaza-aprendizaje institucional; así como recopilar, indizar, publicar y recuperar información digital extraída desde Internet o creada por los grupos e individuos miembros de la red.

The design of a telematic network capable of connecting all the branches of the institution used as a basis for the implementation of the proposed informatic platform model is exposed. This is used for interconnecting the different social networks being part of the the institution. The created platform allows, individually or in groups, the creation and edition of blogs at corporative level, the corporative chat, the creation, control and follow-up of projects, the management of individual and group activities, the creation of the virtual teaching center of the institution as a means to improve the institutional teaching-learning system, and to gather, index, publish and retreive digital information extracted from internet or created by the individuals and groups members of the network.

Organizations with learning capacity: Apropos of a literature review

Actualmente, las organizaciones se enfrentan a condiciones en el mercado muy diferentes a las que predominaban en el pasado. Los cambios en el entorno son muy rápidos, el ciclo de innovación es más corto y las tecnologías tienen una elevada importancia. En un entorno turbulento, sólo las organizaciones con más capacidad de adaptación a las nuevas realidades tendrán la posibilidad de obtener continuamente éxito y sobrevivir. En este nuevo entorno, el aprendizaje continuo de la organización es fundamental y son los conceptos de aprendizaje organizacional, desarrollados por Senge, de elevada importancia y actualidad. Se realiza una breve revisión de la bibliografía disponible sobre el aprendizaje organizacional y se señalan modelos y escalas de referencia.

At present, organizations are facing market conditions very different from those of the past. The changes in the setting are very fast, the cycle of innovation is shorter, and new technologies are very important. In a turbulent setting, only the organizations with a higher capacity to adapt themselves to the new realities will have the opportunity to be continuously successful and survive. In these new setting, the continuous learning of the organization is fundamental, and the learning and organizational concepts developed by Senge are highly significant and topical . A brief review of the bibliography available on organizational learning is made, and reference models and scales are referrred to.

Professional competences of the health sciences librarians in the XXI century

El siglo XXI impone al bibliotecario grandes retos como consecuencia del desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías y la incorporación a diversos escenarios donde la información asume formas que van más allá de los productos y servicios tradicionales de una biblioteca. Se realiza una panorámica de los cambios que han marcado el tránsito hacia un paradigma diferente para la actividad científica-informativa. Se analiza la necesidad de desarrollar nuevas capacidades y conocimientos entre los bibliotecarios como parte de un proceso de alfabetización informacional. Se establecen las diferencias entre el modelo del bibliotecario tradicional y el modelo del bibliotecario gestor. Asimismo se describen algunas de las competencias profesionales que deben desarrollar los bibliotecarios para asumir las nuevas funciones que le impone la sociedad de la información.

The XXI Century faces librarians with great challenges, as a consequence of the development of new technologies and their incorporation to different scenarios where information takes forms beyond the traditional products and services of a library. The changes that have characterized the transit towards a different paradigm for the scientific information activity are approached. An analysis is made of the need of developing new abilities and knowledge among librarians, as part of a process of informational literacy. The differences between the traditional librarian model and the model of the management librarian are stated, and some of the professional competences librarians should develop to deal with the new functions imposed to them by the information society are established.

Cuban scientific production: a perspective of the work of two academic women

Con el objetivo de estudiar la visibilidad de la producción científica de Cuba, se identificaron las publicaciones de académicos cubanos, tanto los de mérito como los de la Sección de ciencias biomédicas y de la Sección de ciencias exactas y naturales de la Academia de Ciencias de Cuba, procesada en la base de datos Scopus. Dos mujeres: las doctoras Rosa María Más Ferreiro y María Guadalupe Guzmán, no sólo fueron las más productivas sino que además, sus obras presentaron el mejor impacto. El hallazgo corrobora el papel de la mujer en la ciencia cubana.

Aimed at studying the visibility of the Cuban scientific production, the publications of both, merit and number academic members of the Biomedical Section and of the Natural and Exact Sciences Section of the Cuban Academy of Science, processed in the Scopus database, were identified. Two women, doctors Rosa María Más Ferreiro and María Guadalupe Guzmán, were not only the most productive ones, but also their works had the best impact. These findings corroborated the role played by women in the Cuban science.

Proposal of a methodological strategy for the information competency training of the medical and health sciences students in Cienfuegos

Se presenta una estrategia metodológica con el propósito de desarrollar la capacidad de respuesta de los estudiantes ante los cambios constantes del entorno en que se desempeñan en las carreras de medicina, estomatología y enfermería.

A methodological strategy is presented with the objective of developing the capacity of the students to give an answer to the constant changes occurring in the setting in which they carry out their activities in the medical, dental and nursing careers.

BiblioAIDS: a community information service

El VIH/SIDA es una epidemia de proporciones mundiales. Un factor esencial para reducir su avance es la educación de las personas, sobre todo de los jóvenes. Se exponen los antecedentes, actividades, resultados y enseñanzas obtenidas con BiblioSIDA, un servicio de información a la comunidad que presta la Biblioteca Médica Nacional de Cuba, con el propósito de incidir favorablemente en el grado de información sobre la enfermedad y el autocuidado de sus usuarios.

HIV/AIDS is a worldwide disease. An important factor to reduce its progress is the education of people, mainly of the young people. The history, activities, results and teachings obtained with BiblioSIDA, an information service for the community provided by the National Medical Library of Cuba, are exposed aimed at influencing favorably on the degree of information on this disease and the self-care of its users.
