Offering appropriate information on the part of the doctor to the oncologic patient has proven to be difficult because of the several cultural prejudices that surround the word "cancer". In most of the cases a similar attitude is not only mistaken but harmful for the doctor-patient relationship, affecting their communication, as well as the trust and collaboration on the part of the patient. The current positions on this problem are approached through this work and some suggestions for the handling of this type of information, as well as data reflected in investigations carried out in different latitudes and in our context are exposed

Imágenes de la Ciencia y La Tecnología presentes en profesores de la Educación Médica Superior

El trabajo que se presenta parte de los marcos conceptuales de los Estudios Sociales de la Ciencia y la Tecnología contextualizados en las condiciones cubanas. La promoción de nuevas visiones sobre las relaciones ciencia-tecnología-sociedad, se muestra muy pertinente para el análisis de los problemas teóricos-metodológicos y ético-axiológicos que emergen en el campo científico-tecnológico de la salud. La profundización en estos problemas desde el enfoque CTS permite nuevos referentes para los contextos de investigación-innovación, aplicación, evaluación y de forma muy especialmente para el contexto educativo. Sobre estos presupuestos teóricos se presenta el resultado de un estudio empírico realizado con el objetivo de mostrar las principales tendencias en las representaciones sobre los temas de ciencia y tecnología, en un grupo de profesores del Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas de Camaguey, identificándose cómo aún persisten imágenes tradicionales conformadas en este contexto

This work arises from the conceptual perspective of the Social Studies of Science and Technology contextualized under the Cuban conditions. The promotion of new visions on the relationship science-technology-society is shown to be relevant for the analysis of the theoretical-methodological and ethical-axiological problems that emerge in the scientific-technological areas of health. Deepening into these problems from the CTS approach allows new referents for the investigation-innovation, application, and evaluation contexts and especially for the educational context. The result of an empiric study carried out with the objective of showing the main tendencies in the representations of science and technology-related topics, among a group of professors from the Medical School in Camagüey, is presented, based on the theoretical references already mentioned, being identified the way traditional images still persist

Aspectos Éticos de la Investigación Clínica en seres humanos

La ética de la experimentación con seres humanos no es sólo una de las áreas fundamentales de la bioética, sino también una de las problemáticas que le dieron origen. Se describen en este trabajo algunas implicaciones éticas de la experimentación en seres humanos; se analizan el origen y evolución de la bioética, los aspectos regulatorios para la realización de ensayos clínicos y su valoración moral, los tipos de experimentación; la realidad mundial y cubana en cuanto a investigación clínica y tecnología y el consentimiento informado. Se concluye que el criterio ético fundamental de las investigaciones en seres humanos es su disposición al servicio del hombre

The ethics of experimentation with human beings is not only one of the fundamental areas of bioethics, but also one of the problems that originated this field. In this work some ethical implications of experimentation in human beings are described; the origin and evolution of bioethics are analyzed, the regulatory aspects for the realization of clinical trials and their moral valuation, the experimentation types; international and Cuban reality as for clinical investigation and technology and the informed consent. It is assumed that the fundamental ethical approach of the investigations with human beings is its disposition to serve mankind

Análisis de la Naturaleza de los valores ético morales

El autor comienza planteando la posibilidad de que este estudio pudiera no ser válido para los valores de todas las zonas axiológicas por lo que se referirá solamente a los valores ético -morales. Continúa definiendo los conceptos de valor ético moral, exigencia de autorregulación ético moral, sujeto, objeto, actividad, conciencia, voluntad, lo subjetivo, lo objetivo y lo objetivo subjetivo. Más adelante argumenta que aunque la voluntad y la conciencia tienen una gran importancia en el dominio de los valores ético morales, no los determinan, por lo que no son subjetivos, al menos de manera absoluta. Prosigue planteando que aunque las características del objeto, de las circunstancias y del contexto socio histórico, son también imprescindibles en el análisis de los valores ético morales, tampoco los determina, por lo que los valores de este dominio axiológico no son objetivos de manera absoluta. Concluye argumentando que los valores ético morales se dan en una relación sujeto objeto, y en este tipo de relación participan al mismo tiempo factores tanto objetivos como subjetivos, por lo que estos valores tienen una naturaleza objetivo subjetiva

The author begins outlining the possibility that this study could not be valid for all values of every axiologic area. For that reason, the moral-ethical values will be the only one analyzed. It continues defining the concepts of moral-ethical value, moral-ethical self-regulation demand, subject, object, activity, consciousness, will, the subjective, the objective and the objective-subjective. Later on it is argued that although will and consciousness have a great importance in the moral ethical values domain, they don't determine them, and so they are not subjective, at least in an absolute way. It continues outlining that although the characteristics of the object, the circumstances and the social-historical context are also indispensable in the analysis of the moral-ethical values, neither of them determines this phenomenon. That{s why the values of this axiologic domain are not objective in an absolute way. It concludes arguing that the moral ethical values occur in a subject-object relationship, and in this relationship type objectives as well as subjective factors participate. For this reason these values have a subjective-objective nature

Educación Comunitaria en Salud Bucal para niños

Con el objetivo de determinar la influencia de las técnicas afectivo-participativas para la promoción de salud bucal en niños se realizó un estudio de intervención en el consultorio 61 área Oeste de la ciudad de Camagüey. La muestra quedó constituida por 35 infantes. Se realizarón dos exámenes; el primero antes de las actividades educativas y el segundo concluidas estas, se les tomó el Índice de Análisis de la Higiene Bucal de Love, el Índice MEDI-MED de Rossetti y una entrevista estructurada para valorar el nivel de información. Se ejecutaron dos sesiones educativas mensuales durante un trimestre. Como conclusión se obtuvo que dichas técnicas constituyeron una opción válida para la promoción de salud bucal porque después de ejecutadas casi la totalidad de los pequeños obtuvieron bien en la eficiencia del cepillado, predominando las mentes y encías sanas, el promedio de dientes permanentes sanos no sufrió cambios y el nivel de información satisfactorio fue alcanzado por la mayoría.

With the objective of determining the influence of the affective-participative techniques for the promotion of buccal health in children, an intervention study in clinic 61, West area of Camagüey city was carried out. The sample was constituted by 35 infants. Two exams were carried out; the first one before the educational activities and the second one after concluding these. The Index of Buccal Hygiene Analysis of Love, the MEDI-MED Index of Rossetti and an interview structured in order to value the level of information of these children were used. Two monthly educational sessions were made during a trimester. To sum up, these techniques constituted a valid option for the promotion of buccal health because after applying them almost all children obtained a good mark in the efficiency of teeth brushing, prevailing healthy minds and gums, the average of healthy permanent teeth didn't suffer any changes and a satisfactory level of information was reached by most

Desafíos y esperanzas de un procedimiento científico terapéutico: hemodiálisis arteriovenosa continua

Se realiza un estudio sobre las interacciones entre el contexto sociocultural, la ciencia y la tecnología en el surgimiento y desarrollo de un novedoso procedimiento científico terapéutico: La Hemodiálisis Arteriovenosa continua, así como los posibles impactos sociales, económicos y científicos que traería consigo la aplicación de esta nueva tecnología, se concluye que el desarrollo científico tecnológico alcanzado alrededor de la segunda guerra mundial, así como la alta mortalidad en heridos con Insuficiencia renal aguda jugaron un importante papel en el surgimiento de la hemodiálisis. Las ventajas económicas que ofrece la aplicación de este proceder hace muy útil su aplicación en Cuba y otros países en vías de desarrollo que no tienen acceso a las caras tecnologías capitalistas. El modelo cubano de construcción del socialismo con una visión amplia en ciencia, tecnología y sociedad, ofrece respuestas efectivas al desafío científico tecnológico que hoy enfrentan los países subdesarrollados

A study on the interactions among the sociocultural context, science and technology in the emergence and development of a novel therapeutic scientific procedure: Continuous Arteriovenous Hemodyalisis is carried out, as well as the possible social, economic and scientific impacts of the application of this new technology. It is concluded that the technological-scientific development reached around the Second World War, as well as the high mortality among wounded soldiers with acute renal insufficiency played an important role in the emergence of hemodialysis. The economic advantages that the application of this procedure offers makes very useful its application in Cuba and other developing countries that don't have access to expensive capitalist technologies. The Cuban pattern for the construction of socialism, with its wide vision of science, technology and society, offers effective answers to the technological-scientific challenge that underdeveloped countries face
