This scientific work comprises the first stage of an investigation directed to perfect the preparation of Dentistry students to face the scientific activity. A diagnosis to evaluate the current view of the Dentistry career's curriculum for the development of the scientific activity was carried out, emphasizing the contents of the subject Research Methodology .To carry out the investigation empiric and theoretical methods were used, such as, surveys, interviews and the analysis of documents. As a result of the diagnosis it was verified that the treatment that is given to the investigative activity and in particular to the teaching of Research Methodology in the current curriculum is not the most appropriate one to guarantee the objectives that are pursued in the formation of the future graduates. The students don't carry out this activity with sequential and completely independent gradual character, as well as they lack the possibility of getting involved in the different types of investigative studies

Promoción de salud: ¿desde las ciencias básicas?

Como respuesta a la necesidad que tiene el médico de familia de enfatizar en su preparación sobre la realización de actividades de Promoción de Salud desde etapas tan tempranas como las Ciencias Básicas es que se concibe este trabajo. Se realiza esta investigación en el Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas de Camagüey con una muestra significativa de estudiantes y profesores de las Ciencias Básicas. Sus resultados evidencian que existen algunas dificultades en la incorporación de esta temática dentro de los contenidos de las asignaturas de esta área. Los alumnos han incorporado la importancia que tiene la Promoción de Salud, pero en muchos casos no han interiorizado ni el concepto ni las vías de llevarla a cabo. Producto de dichos resultados se realiza una propuesta para el tratamiento de aspectos de Promoción de Salud de utilidad para el futuro médico en su trabajo con la población; se toma en consideración el enfoque hacia la Promoción en las disciplinas tanto básicas como de formación general que conforman las Ciencias Básicas; esto posibilita que el futuro egresado de Medicina desarrolle un pensamiento de Promotor de Salud en la Comunidad que le permita con sus acciones contribuir a que su población adquiera capacidades de adaptarse o cambiar el medio y alcanzar un estado adecuado de bienestar físico, mental y social en lo individual, lo familiar y lo comunitario, lo que contribuirá a un mayor grado de satisfacción de la población y a que la calidad de vida y desarrollo del pueblo cubano sea superior

This paper has been conceived as an answer to family doctors' needs. Preparing themselves properly since the erliest stages of their studies about the different activities concerning Health Promotion within the community is one of them, and it could be said a really important one; but, are they aware of the relevance of this feature?, do they receive actual information about this issue trough out the teaching-learning process of different subjects in their first and second years of their studies?. To find out answers has been the purpose for this study, which has been performed at the Medical University of Camagüey Carlos J. Finlay. A significant sample of professors and students of the Basic Area were involved in it. The results obtained are interesting: the students are aware of the importance of Health Promotion, nevertheless many of them do not know either the meaning or the ways to perform it. According to these results, the authors designed a proposal in order to include those important issues as an integrative aspect of the subjects studied since the first year. This should help the medical doctors- to- be in their work within the family and the community. It will also allow them to contribute to the physical, mental and social welfare of the population they work with as well as a better life quality for the individual, the family and the community

Innovación educativa para el fortalecimiento del enfoque Ciencia-Tecnología-Sociedad en la educación postgraduada

Los Estudios sociales de la ciencia y la tecnología también reconocidos bajo el nombre Estudios Ciencia- Tecnología- Sociedad (CTS), es un campo científico que a pesar de su relativa juventud es considerado un campo bien consolidado de investigación académica, en las áreas de la política científica y educación, Los Estudios CTS ponen énfasis en los aspectos sociales del fenómeno ciencia y tecnología en sus consecuencias sociales y ambientales, por eso su enfoque general es de carácter crítico respecto a las imágenes o visiones clásicas de la ciencia y la tecnología que aún resultan predominantes, y orienta hacia una actitud vigilante alrededor de la actividad científica. Sus valiosas estructuras teóricas y conceptuales son fundamentales para el análisis de las ciencias y tecnologías de la salud, lo que lo convierte en un instrumento de elevado significado para la educación médica superior y la práctica y la ciencia de la Salud Pública en general. La presente estrategia educativa permite actualizar los paradigmas desde los cuáles se piensa sobre las interrelaciones ciencia-tecnología-sociedad; como respuesta a las necesidades de satisfacer demandas cognoscitivas en ésta área. El objetivo esencial de la estrategia consiste en proporcionar visiones cada vez más desarrolladas y amplias sobre la actividad científico-tecnológica, de modo que promuevan una actitud ética y responsable de los profesionales de la salud. El Diplomado que se propone forma parte del Sistema de Educación Postgraduada del Centro de Humanidades y Ética en Ciencias de la Salud y ha sido aprobado por la Escuela Nacional de Salud Pública con carácter internacional

The social studies of science and technology, also known as Science - Technology - Society Studies (CTS), is a scientific field that in spite of its relative youth is considered a consolidated field of academic investigation, in the scientific politics and education areas. CTS Studies emphasize the social aspects of the science-technology phenomenon in its social and environmental consequences, for that reason it regards critically the images or classic approaches of science and technology that are still predominant. It also guides towards a careful attitude around the scientific activity. Their valuable theoretical and conceptual structures are fundamental for the analysis of health sciences and technologies, which turns it into a meaningful instrument of higher medical education and of the theory and practice of Public Health in general. These educational strategy allows upgrading the paradigms from which the interrelations science-technology-society are analyzed, as a way to answer the necessities of satisfying cognitive demands in this area. The essential objective of the strategy consists of providing better developed and vaster visions of the scientific-technological activity, so that this promotes an ethical and responsible attitude among health professionals. The post graduate course proposed is part of the Postgraduate System of Education of the Center of Humanities and Ethics in Health Sciences and it has been approved by the Public Health National School as an international course

Elementos de Trabajo Social para profesores de las Carreras Médicas: una experiencia interesante

Con la intención de divulgar una experiencia positiva de un curso sobre cuestiones sociales integradas al trabajo del futuro profesional de la salud en el contexto comunitario se ha llevado a cabo este trabajo. Durante el curso 2001-2002 se imparte un diplomado de Educación Médica Superior, dirigido a cuadros y profesores con el objetivo de contribuir al logro de la excelencia del proceso formativo en las carreras de Ciencias Médicas, para que se revierta en la elevación de la calidad del egresado. En el mismo se incluyó un módulo Lo Social en el Trabajo del Profesional de la Salud con el propósito de preparar a los profesores para realizar una labor educativa más eficiente con los futuros profesionales de la salud en cuanto a los procesos de integración con la comunidad, familia, individuo y sociedad en general; en resumen, metodología y técnicas del trabajo social a desarrollar por los mismos en su entorno. Se incluye el programa del Módulo. Los resultados obtenidos fueron muy satisfactorios. Se aplicó al final del módulo una de las técnicas de De Bono, el llamado PNI (positivo, negativo e interesante), para conocer la satisfacción del grupo de cursistas; los resultados del mismo fueron altamente gratos. Se concluye que este tipo de curso más ampliado y profundo debe impartirse para los profesores. También se hace una propuesta de incluir un programa de Trabajo Social del Equipo de Salud en la Comunidad como curso electivo en las carreras de las Ciencias Médicas

This work has been carried out w ith the objective of disclosing the positive experience of a course on social aspects in the community work of the future health professional. During the course 2001-2002 a Higher Medical Education postgraduate course was delivered to officials and professors with the objective of contributing to the achievement of excellence in the formative process in the careers of Medical Sciences, so that it is reverted in the elevation of the quality of the graduate. The module "The Social Aspect of Health Professionals' activity" was included with the purpose of preparing the professors to carry out a more efficient educational work with the futures health professionals as for the integration processes with the community, family, individual and society in general; in summary, social work methodologies and techniques that will be useful in their environment. The program of this Module is included. The results obtained were satisfactory. At the end of the module one of the techniques of De Bono, the so-called PNI (positive, negative and interesting), was applied to know the satisfaction of the course participants; being the results highly pleasing. It can be concluded that this type of course should be imparted to the professors in a deeper way. A proposal is also made of including a program of Health Team ' s Social Work in the Community as an elective course in the Medical Sciences careers

La educación en valores humanos: fundamento de las estrategias educativas

El presente trabajo responde esencialmente a la necesidad de capacitar a los recursos humanos que intervienen en el proceso de formación de los profesionales de la salud (docentes, trabajadores no docentes y directivos) para asumir con plenitud la tarea del desarrollo del trabajo formativo sobre las actuales concepciones filosóficas, pedagógicas y psicológicas, que están elaboradas tanto a escala nacional como internacional. Este diplomado contribuye al desarrollo sobre bases científicas de la estrategia educativa y los proyectos educativos que se elaboran en el Centro. Por ello el objetivo es el de hacer una propuesta de actividad de postgrado (Diplomado) que permita la preparación teórica y metodológica del personal docente y de dirección de la Educación Médica Superior para desarrollar la educación en valores a través del proyecto educativo, así como brindar herramientas prácticas para el diseño de las estrategias educativas. El diplomado que se muestra está aprobado como actividad de los programas nacionales e internacionales de postgrados del MINSAP y la ENSAP, y ha sido impartido en dos versiones en el ISCM Carlos J Finlay de Camaguey con resultados positivos. Este curso de superación es el resultado lógico del desarrollo de tesis de maestrías y de otros cursos cortos contemplados en el plan de superación del Instituto de varios profesores involucrados en el mismo

This work responds essentially to the necessity of qualifying the human resources that intervene in the health professionals formation process to assume with great quality the carrying out of the formative work, taking into consideration the current philosophical, pedagogical and psychological conceptions elaborated at national as well as international levels. This postgraduate course contributes to the development on scientific bases of the educational strategy and the educational projects that are elaborated. For this reason, the main objective is making a proposal of postgraduate studies that foster professors theoretical and methodological preparation, to develop values education through the educational project, as well as to offer practical tools for the design of educational strategies. The postgraduate course that is presented is approved as an activity of the national and international programs of postgraduate studies of MINSAP and ENSAP, and it has been carried out in two versions in Carlos J Finlay Medical School in Camagüey with positive results. This course is the logical result of the development of master degree scientific papers and of other short courses contemplated in the Medical School professors development planning.

The importance of professional development and systematic updating on the formative process in English, together to the threat of the shortage of offers in this aspect were the reasons that gave origin to the design of this postgraduate course. The main purpose of this work has been to disclose this experience and to make possible its generalization. The post graduate course program is consigned by Modules, although for the sake of space it has been necessary to ignore much of the bibliography used. Different aspects of the course development are specified, the results of De Bono (Positive, Negative, Interesting) technique, which was, applied to the course participants. The topics of the scientific papers are analyzed in their practical application in the teaching process as well as their usefulness as consultation bibliography. It is concluded that this course demonstrated to be an effective way for the upgrade of professors, for the elevation of the quality of teaching and the development of participants and the professors that delivered the course.

Día a día. Efemérides comentadas para los centros educacionales

Inmersos en la actual batalla de ideas y en aras de contribuir al logro de una cultura general e integral se realizó este trabajo. Su objetivo es contribuir al incremento de materiales didácticos para una formación político-ideológica de los estudiantes, con vistas a una mejor proyección cultural integral en el desempeño de su profesión. Consiste en un libro que brinda información sobre hechos ocurridos en diferentes ramas del saber humano y esferas de la vida del hombre, en cada uno de los días del año. Abarca fecha de nacimiento y muerte de personalidades, hechos en el ámbito histórico, científico-técnico y cultural, fundamentalmente de Cuba; también se incluyen otros acontecimientos ocurridos en el mundo que tuvieron repercusión en nuestro país. Consta de 731 efemérides comentadas, acompañadas, algunas de ellas, de información visual. El trabajo aporta información a los estudiantes y contribuye a subsanar las insuficiencias informativas

This work was carried out in the current battle of ideas and with the objective of contributing to the achievement of a general and integral culture. Its objective is to contribute to the increment of didactic materials for the political-ideological formation of the students, so as to achieve their integral cultural projection. It consists of a book that offers information on facts that happened in different branches of human knowledge and spheres of men's life. It includes the date of birth and death of personalities, historical as well as scientific, technological and cultural facts, mainly in Cuba. Other world events that had repercussion in our country are included. It consists of 731 commented events, some of them complemented with visual information. This research offers information to the students and contributes to correct information inadequacies

La superación política ideológica un reto de la enseñanza médica

Esta investigación es un estudio descriptivo de los resultados obtenidos en el instituto politécnico de la salud Pham Ngoc Thach Camagüey a partir de un diagnóstico realizado a los docentes donde se detectaron dificultades. Este trabajo comenzó desde el año 1999 y se extiende hasta el 2003, formando parte de un proyecto de investigación del centro. Las dificultades detectadas en el año 1999 impedían la adecuada preparación de los docentes para el tratamiento de los valores ya que desconocían los fundamentos teóricos relacionados con los valores y existía insuficiente preparación para elaborar estrategias didácticas en el proceso de fortalecimiento de valores. En el año 2002 se detectaron dificultades ya que se desconocían los elementos del trabajo político ideológico e identificaban éste con la reflexión y el debate y lo limitaban al uso de materiales audiovisuales. Por estas razones nos motivamos a realizar este trabajo. El objetivo del mismo es proponer alternativas de trabajo para la superación político- ideológica de los docentes. Entre los resultados más importantes están: la elaboración de una metodología para el tratamiento de los valores, la formulación de habilidades profesionales para el trabajo con los valores, la elaboración de folletos que han servido como material de consulta para los docentes en su preparación política ideológica los cuales se han generalizado en la provincia. Con la investigación se pudo confirmar que con la impartición del postgrado de valores y de los diplomados se logró elevar y consolidar el conocimiento sobre la problemática axiológica y el trabajo político ideológico y las actividades de superación política fueron catalogadas de muy buenas por parte de los docentes

This investigation is a descriptive study of the results obtained in Pham Ngoc Thach health polytechnic institute in Camagüey, starting from the difficulties detected in a diagnosis carried out to this school's teachers. This work began in 1999 and continued up to 2003, being part of a project of investigation of this school. The difficulties detected in 1999 impeded the appropriate preparation of teachers since they ignored the theoretical foundations of values and had an insufficient preparation to elaborate didactic strategies in the process of values formation. In 2002 difficulties were detected regarding the elements of the ideological political work, which teachers ignored. They identified these elements as being only the reflection and debate and they limited it to the use of audiovisual materials. These reasons motivated us to carry out this work. Its objective is to propose alternatives for the ideological political development of teachers. Among the most important results we can mention: the elaboration of a methodology for the treatment of values, the formulation of professional abilities for the work with values, the elaboration of pamphlets that has been used as consultation material for teachers in their ideological political preparation. It was confirmed that these postgraduate courses on values made possible to rise and consolidate the knowledge on the axiologic problematic and the ideological political work. The activities of political development were regarded as very good by the teachers who were involved

Caracterización a estudiantes de estomatología por el profesor guía como parte del proyecto educativo

Actualmente la caracterización de los estudiantes constituye uno de los problemas mayores para el Profesor Guía. Nuestro trabajo se basa en la confección y aplicación de técnicas que caracterizan a los estudiantes. Se realiza un estudio descriptivo a 49 estudiantes de 2do año de la carrera de Estomatología del curso 2002- 2003 del Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas de Camaguey para evaluar métodos de caracterización en la esfera afectiva - motivacional, y cualidades personales de los estudiantes con intervención en la proyección educativa del grupo y determinar los resultados del trabajo individual y grupal. Las técnicas que se aplicaron fueron creadas por los Profesores Guías para determinar los valores y la característica individual y colectiva del grupo de estudiantes como parte del trabajo educativo. Las técnicas consistieron en pintar una mano donde por prioridad se señalaba los valores por los estudiantes y en el centro de la mano expresaron al valor predominante en sus profesores guías. Se indicó dibujar una cara donde reflejaban lo que pensaban, oían, veían y hablaban, que le resultara agradable o no. Para determinar la aceptación individual en el grupo, se les entregó una planilla con el listado de los estudiantes para que los clasificara del 1 al 6 según criterio individual de cada uno de ellos. Aplicadas las técnicas en su fase inicial, se ejecutó la estrategia de intervención incluida dentro del proyecto educativo de los estudiantes, de forma que las actividades contribuyeran a darle solución a los problemas individuales y grupales detectados por el profesor guía. Los resultados en los valores de mayor prioridad por los estudiantes fueron la dignidad, la solidaridad y la responsabilidad, incrementándose en la evaluación final los valores colectivistas. Los valores reflejados para los profesores guías fueron la responsabilidad, laboriosidad en ambas encuestas, y el humanismo como predominante en su apreciación al inicio y la solidaridad en la encuesta final. Se determinó la presencia de estudiantes rechazados y aislados por el grupo, y al aplicar la estrategia para incorporar esos estudiantes al grupo se logró una disminución de los mismos y se obtuvo mayor unidad. Las técnicas utilizadas para la caracterización reflejaron los aspectos de cada estudiante, el que se precisó de forma efectiva, sus cualidades y defectos, así como los cambios ocurridos de forma individual y en el grupo en general

A descriptive study to 49 second-year Dentistry students during the academic course 2002 - 2003 was carried out at the Medical School in Camagüey to evaluate the methods of characterization in the affective-motivational sphere, and the students' personal qualities with intervention of the group in the educational projection. The results of individual and group work were also determined. The techniques applied were created by adviser professors to determine the values and the individual and collective characteristics of the group of students as part of the educational work. The techniques consisted of painting a hand in which values were pointed out by the students in order of priority. In the center of the hand they expressed their adviser professor's predominant value. The students were told to draw a face where they reflected what they thought, heard, saw and spoke that was pleasant or not. To determine the individual acceptance in the group, they were given a list with the names of all students so that they classified them from the 1 to the 6 according to the individual approach to each one. After the techniques were applied in their initial phase, the intervention strategy that was part of the students educational project was carried out, so the activities could contribute to solve individual and group problems detected by the professor. The values students prioritized were dignity, solidarity and responsibility, increasing in the final evaluation collectivistic values. The adviser professors' values were responsibility, laboriousness in both surveys, humanism was predominant at the beginning and solidarity in the final survey. The presence of rejected and isolated students was determined by the group, decreasing this group of students in number after applying the strategy to incorporate those students to the group. The techniques used for the characterization reflected the students characteristics, their qualities and defects, as well as the changes experienced by individuals and by the group in general

Propuesta de actividades para incrementar el interés profesional en estudiantes del primer año de enfermería

El presente artículo se basa en una investigación dirigida a elaborar una propuesta de actividades para incrementar el interés profesional en los estudiantes de primer año de Licenciatura en Enfermería del Instituto Superior de Ciencias Médicas Carlos J. Finlay de Camagüey. En la misma se hace un análisis teórico conceptual del surgimiento y evolución de la orientación profesional a escala mundial y nacional, así como la evolución de la enfermería en Cuba. En el desarrollo del trabajo se emplearon métodos de la investigación educativa, entre los que se destacan la composición, la técnica de los Diez Deseos, encuestas etc., Los resultados del diagnóstico evidenciaron dificultades en el desarrollo de los intereses profesionales en los estudiantes del primer año, por lo que se elaboró una propuesta de actividades cuya puesta en práctica permitirá incrementar el desarrollo de los mismos en los estudiantes

The present article is based on an investigation directed to elaborate a proposal of activities to increase the professional interest of first year nursing students in Carlos J. Finlay Medicine School in Camagüey. A conceptual-theoretical analysis of the emergence and evolution of professional orientation to world and national scale is made, as well as of the evolution of nursing in Cuba. In the development of this research educational investigation methods were used, among those that stand out, the composition, the Ten Desires technique, surveys, etc. The results of the diagnosis evidenced difficulties in the development of first year students' professional interests. A proposal of activities whose implementation will allow increasing the development of professional interests was elaborated
