Science, Technology and Study movement. Its origen and fundamental traditions

Es conocido que en nuestro país desde hace ya una década se están dirigiendo los esfuerzos hacia el fomento y consolidación de una nueva cultura científico-tecnológica que se corresponda con las exigencias y demandas de la realidad económico-social cubana actual. Las particularidades del desarrollo de nuestro proyecto social nos exigen actualizar y profundizar los estudios sociales sobre la ciencia y la tecnología. Por tal razón, el objetivo de este trabajo consiste en caracterizar los aspectos más significativos de las tendencias, escuelas y representantes fundamentales de los Estudios CTS. Se debe apuntar también que lo más provechoso en este caso no debe ser tanto hacer un resumen de las ideas básicas de cada corriente o pensador, sino más bien tratar de captar el hilo conductor de los problemas y elaboraciones más significativas que dieron origen al Movimiento CTS y que han sido objeto de discusión en las tradiciones CTS en cada contexto histórico-cultural

It is well-known that in our country efforts are being made for a decade towards the development and consolidation of a new scientific-technological culture that correspond to the demands of the current Cuban socio-economic reality. The particularities of the development of our social project demand us to deepen into the social studies of science and the technology. For such a reason, the objective of this work consists of characterizing the most significant aspects of CTS Studies : its tendencies, schools and main representatives. It should also be pointed out that the most profitable thing to do in this case should not be to make a summary of the basic ideas of each approach or thinker, but rather to try to capture the conductive thread of the problems and more significant elaborations that gave origin to the CTS Movement and that have been discussed in each historical-cultural context

En la actualidad en los marcos de la Batalla de Ideas que libra la sociedad cubana se hace imprescindible conformar una nueva concepción sobre la actividad tecno-científica acorde con las transformaciones que se están produciendo en el mundo y en el país. La significativa contribución de este trabajo se expresa en su objetivo , dirigido a sistematizar los rasgos fundamentales que caracterizan la denominada imagen tradicional o heredada de la ciencia y la tecnología. Conocer cómo surgió, cómo se difundió por el mundo y cómo todavía hoy perdura es de vital importancia para poder superarla dialécticamente. Esta batalla de pensamiento hay que librarla en el plano de las ideas y para ello se precisa ante todo tomar plena conciencia de la situación en la que está hoy todavía el tema de la comprensión de este multifacético y complejo fenómeno social que es la actividad tecno-científica

Nowadays, while the country is engaged in the Battle of Ideas, it becomes indispensable to create a new conception of techno-scientific activity in agreement with the transformations that are taking place in the world and in the country. The significant contribution of this work is expressed in its objective, directed to systematize the fundamental features that characterize the so-called traditional or inherited image of science and technology. To know how it arose, how it spread around the world and how it still prevails among us, is of vital importance to be able to overcome it in a dialectical way. This battle should be fought with ideas and for doing so it is necessary, above all to take full conscience of the situation of this multifaceted and complex social phenomenon that is techno-scientific activity

Suicidal behaviour in children and adolescents: moral and ethical aspects

Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal sobre el intento suicida en pacientes pertenecientes a las áreas de salud Este y Julio A. Mella de la ciudad de Camagüey que ingresaron en la sala de Salud Mental del Hospital Pediátrico Eduardo Agramonte Piña. La muestra quedó constituida por 16 pacientes que realizaron intentos suicida en el período señalado. Los resultados muestran un alto predominio del sexo femenino (81,3%), los estudiantes externos (62,5%), seguido por los becados (31,2%). La escolaridad segundaria no terminada arrojó el mayor por ciento (56.2%) y las familias disfuncionales constituyen el mayor factor de riesgo similar a los conflictos en las relaciones familiares, ambos con un 75%. El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer el comportamiento de los intento suicidas en la edad de Infanto Juvenil durante el año 2002 en dos áreas de salud del municipio de Camagüey y valorar los aspectos éticos y morales de dicho proceder con la ayuda del enfoque de los estudios de Ciencia - Tecnología - Sociedad

It was carried out a descriptive and traverse study on suicidal attempts in patients belonging to Este and Julio A. Mella health areas in Camagüey city that were admitted to the Mental Health ward of Eduardo Agramonte Pi ñ a Pediatric Hospital. The sample was constituted by 16 patients that carried out suicidal attempts in the period. The results show a high prevalence of the feminine sex (81,3%), external students (62,5%), and those granted a scholarship (31,2%). Those who didn't finish high school account for the highest percent (56.2%) and dysfunctional families constitute number one risk factor together with family relationship conflicts, both with 75%. The objective of this study was to know the behavior of suicidal attempts in these age groups during the year 2002 in two health areas of Camagüey municipality and to value the ethical and moral aspects of this behavior with the help of the Science-Technology-Society Studies ' perspective

Alejo Carpentier: his trace, presence and brilliant revelation

El presente trabajo constituye una propuesta de acercamiento a la Obra de Alejo Carpentier, de obligada referencia para los estudios de la identidad Cultural Cubana por sus innegables aportaciones realizadas desde ese modo particular que tuvo de apropiación e interpretación de dichos asuntos en donde se subraya el valor del proceso de transculturación expresados en y desde el sincretismo religioso cubano, así como las complejidades de los procesos sociales y mentales en movimiento, que intervienen en la conformación de imágenes representativas del patrimonio espiritual, inmaterial, oral, intangible de los pueblos. En su obra los hallazgos de dicho patrimonio inmaterial e intangible de los pueblos africanos fundidos en el tiempo a otro espacio, lleva desde su estética de los ambientes a su propuesta de nuevos valores a través de la liberación del espíritu; el culto a la rebeldía y el deseo de independencia; de ahí su revalorización de la cultura popular como fuente primaria, para sus estudios en oposición al esterilizante mimetismo del arte académico. Su obra: multiabarcadora, eslabonadora y convocadora desde disímiles espacios de conectividad, nos insta, nos sigue convidando hoy a una actitud indagadora en las esencias de esa mixtura cultural cubana. Su narrativa nos confirma la certeza, de haber sido ella misma, ese método científico que nos permite captar la subjetividad de los espacios humanos, como elementos imprescindibles en la historia de la cultura de los pueblos

The present work constitutes a proposal to get closer to Alejo Carpentier's work, which is a mandatory reference for the studies of Cuban Cultural identity because of his undeniable contributions carried out from that particular way that he had of appropriation and interpretation of this matters. The value of the transcultural process expressed in and from the Cuban religious syncretism, as well as the complexities of the social and mental processes that intervene in the conformation of representative images of the peoples' spiritual, immaterial, oral intangible patrimony, are pointed out. In his work the discoveries of the immaterial and intangible patrimony of African towns, fused in time to another space, takes from its aesthetics of atmospheres to its proposal of new values through the liberation of the spirit; the cult to rebelliousness and the desire of independence. Hence, his revaluation of popular culture as the primary source for his studies in opposition to the sterilizing mimicry of academic art. His work: comprising, unifying and summoning from dissimilar connectivity spaces, urges us, and keeps inviting us today to a curious attitude in the essence of that Cuban cultural mixture. His narrative confirms us the certainty, of been itself that scientific method that allows us to capture the subjectivity of the human spaces, as indispensable elements in the history of peoples' cultures

Determining values in Community Nursing: a diagnose

La crisis económica universal se hace sentir con más o menos rigor en todos los países del mundo, afectando las estructuras políticas, sociales y ambientales. Las consecuencias de esta situación han repercutido también en el propio sistema de valores de la sociedad cubana, por ende en los profesionales de la salud y dentro de estos en el personal de Enfermería. Tradicionalmente han sido considerados los enfermeros(as) como portadores de valiosas cualidades donde se destacan el respeto al ser humanos, la sensibilidad, la responsabilidad, la cortesía, etc. Es por ello oportuno incursionar en este tema y su relación con el personal de enfermería de la Atención Primaria de Salud, partiendo de la determinación de un banco de valores humanos potenciales que puedan conformar el modelo del perfil humano que tipifique a este personal, de acuerdo con el escenario real de la sociedad cubana, por lo que se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal en los policlínicos Tula Aguilera, Julio A. Mella y Rodolfo Ramírez del Municipio Camagüey. El universo estuvo constituido por el total de personal de enfermería de las tres áreas (390) y de cada una de se tomó como muestra 50 enfermeras(os) para un total de 150 (38,4% del universo) y una pequeña representación de pacientes y familiares (50 por cada policlínico). Como valores potenciales son reconocidos por el propio personal de enfermería y sus usuarios la responsabilidad, la sensibilidad, la cortesía y la laboriosidad y también coinciden que entre los valores más deteriorados en las enfermeras(os) está la cortesía

The universal economic crisis is felt rigorously all over the world, affecting the political, social and environmental structures. The consequences of this situation have also influenced the own system of values of the Cuban society, and consequently health professionals especially the nursing personnel. Traditionally nurses have been considered bearers of valuable qualities such as, their respect to human beings, sensitivity, responsibility, courtesy, etc. This is why it is convenient to deal with this topic and its relationship with Primary Health Attention nursing personnel, taking as a base a bank of potential human values that can conform the human pattern profile that characterize this personnel, in agreement with the real scenario of the Cuban society. For all this, it was carried out a traverse descriptive study in Tula Aguilera, Julio A. Mella and Rodolfo Ramírez Policlinics in Camagüey Municipality. The research group was constituted by the total nursing personnel of this three areas (390) and 50 nurses from each policlinic were taken as a sample for a total of 150 (38,4% of the research group), as well as a small representation of patients and relatives(50 from each policlinic). As potential values were recognized by the own nursing personnel and by patients: responsibility, sensitivity, courtesy and industriousness and they also coincide that the most deteriorated value was courtesy

Problem Solving teaching: some theoretical considerations

Se realizan algunas consideraciones, filosóficas, pedagógica, metodológicas sobre la Enseñanza Problémica la cual constituye una alternativa que pueden emplear los profesores para activar el proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje, teniendo en cuenta las condiciones y características de los educandos. Se reflexiona sobre el origen de este tipo de enseñanza, su desarrollo histórico a partir de los autores más representativos que asumen esta forma de enseñar tanto en Cuba como de otras latitudes, así como los fundamentos teóricos, las categorías y, sus métodos. Además, se observan las ventajas y desventajas que a criterio de los autores tiene el referido tipo de enseñanza

Some philosophical, pedagogic and methodological considerations on problem solving teaching are expressed, which constitutes an alternative that professors can use to activate the teaching-learning process, keeping in mind the conditions and characteristic of their students. It is meditated on the origin of this teaching type, its historical development starting from the most representative authors that assume this form of teaching in Cuba as in other latitudes, as well as its theoretical foundations, categories and methods. The advantages and disadvantages of this approach according to the authors are also mentioned
