^les^aIntroducción: los autores se motivaron por las inquietudes e intereses de los estudiantes del Programa de Formación de Médicos, desarrollado por profesionales de la salud cubana en Zanzíbar, Tanzania. Objetivo: valorar resultados de una estrategia de cursos extensionistas de verano en estudiantes del Nuevo Programa de Formación de Médicos en Zanzíbar. Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal en estudiantes de 2do. año de medicina de la Escuela de Medicina de Zanzíbar, de octubre 2009 a enero del 2011. La investigación se realizó en tres etapas: identificación de las necesidades de aprendizaje (INA), implementación de la estrategia (3 cursos relacionados con la lNA) y evaluación. Para la obtención de los datos primarios de la primera y última etapa se diseñaron cuestionarios que recogían las variables de interés. Resultados: se impartieron 3 cursos con las temáticas más solicitadas por los estudiantes: introducción a la semiología médica, emergencias médicas y hemoterapia, las cuales estuvieron, para más del 40 % de los estudiantes, entre su 1ra. y 2da. prioridad. El 94,5 % de los estudiantes participantes en los cursos consideran que los objetivos se cumplieron a un nivel entre muy alto y alto, el 90 % consideró todos los cursos como muy interesantes o interesantes, el 100 % los valoró como cursos muy actualizados y el 95,9 % de los participantes como muy buenos y buenos de forma general. Los profesores manifestaron su alta satisfacción por el interés mostrado por los estudiantes, su activa participación en ellos, la asistencia mantenida, la preparación para los distintos temas que se debatieron, las reflexiones y valoraciones críticas de las temáticas impartidas. Conclusiones: la estrategia de cursos de verano desarrollada, constituyó una opción para desde la extensión universitaria satisfacer necesidades de aprendizaje de los estudiantes y motivarlos por nuevos temas para próximas temporadas, tanto estos como los profesores hacen una valoración positiva de su implementación.^len^aIntroduction: the authors were motivated by the worries and interests of the students from the Medical Formation Program implemented by Cuban health professionals in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Objective: to assess the results of a summer extension course strategy in students of the new medical training program in Zanzibar. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with 2nd year medical students of the medical school of Zanzibar from October 2009 to January 2011. It was performed in three stages: identification of learning needs, implementation of the strategy (3 courses associated to identification of learning needs), and evaluation. For the primary data collection, some questionnaires referred to the variables of interest were designed. Results: three courses containing the most requested topics by the students were taught, namely, introduction to medical semiotics, medical emergencies and hemotheraphy, which were rated as the first and the second priority for over 40 % of students. Of the participants, 94.5 % considered that the objectives were met and fully met; 90 % believed that all the courses were interesting or very interesting; 100 % regarded them as much updated courses and 95.9 % rated them as good and very good. The professors stated that they were very satisfied with the high interest of the students, their participation, their attendance to the course, the preparation of the students for the debate of several topics, the reflections on and the critical assessment of the given subjects. Conclusions: the strategy of summer courses put into practice was one choice for meeting the learning requirements of students from the university extension program, and for encouraging them to deal with new topics in the forthcoming periods. Both the professors and the students positively assessed the implementation of this type of courses.
