^les^aSe relacionan las primeras diligencias realizadas entre 1670 y 1717 por los frailes dominicos para crear, por primera vez en La Habana, una institución de enseñanza superior. Se brindan algunos detalles acerca de la organización y evolución de la Universidad de La Habana durante los 115 años de su etapa pontificia (1728-1842). Se refieren las gestiones, llevadas a cabo a partir de 1949, por el doctor Luis Felipe Le Roy Gálvez para encontrar el principal documento relacionado con la historia del alto centro docente, del cual se muestra la copia del original en latín, recuperada en el Vaticano, así como la última traducción de su texto al español.^len^aThe first arrangements carried out by Dominican friars between 1670 and 1717 to create, for the first time in Havana, a higher learning institution are related. Some details are provided on the organization and evolution of Havana University during the 115 years of its pontifical period (1728-1824). The steps carried out by Dr. Luis Felipe Le Roy Gávez starting form 1949 in order to find out the main document related to the history of the higher teaching center are referred to. The copy of the original document in Latin, retrieved in the Vatican, as well as the last Spanish translation of its text, appear in the article.
