The process of genesis and development in informatics and information science was described. An approach to its development and interrelations was also carried out, and its differences and similitudes were stablished. Information, as a result of its relevance for scientific, technological and economic development structured several disciplinary spaces, where it became an object of study. Thus, the most influential flows appeared with different denominations: informatics and information science.
