Background: The World Health Organization calculates that each year 466,000 cases of cervix cancer are diagnosed and 231,000 women die, the 80% of these proceed from underdeveloped countries. A national study shows that more than one thousand women are notified with cervix cancer, the highest rates are reported at the eastern provinces, with ages between 35 and 55 years. Objective: To increase the knowledge on cervix cancer risk factors in the female population, at the doctor's Office # 74 in Nuevitas, Camagüey. Method: An educational intervention study was conducted from September to December 2006. The universe was constituted by 110 women between 16 and 45 years, the sample (n=80 patients) was selected according to the author´s criteria. A survey with experts criterion was created by the author, data obtained were processed with automated methods by means of the statistical package Microstat. Results: The 43.75% of the investigated population was between 36 and 45 years, after the intervention the knowledge increased between the 80 and 100% concerning to all the cervix cancer risk factors analyzed, as the human papilloma virus infection, bad socioeconomic conditions, precocious parity, prolonged use of the contraceptive tablets, other sexual transmitted infections and the cytology altered. Conclusions: Almost the half of the studied ones was between 36 and 45 years, after the intervention the level of knowledge increased concerning to all the cervix cancer risk factors analyzed.
