El objetivo de este artículo es promover una reflexión acerca de la formación actual, en nuestro contexto, de investigadores altamente calificados y la necesidad e importancia de asumir este empeño desde la perspectiva de la formación de "hombres de ciencia". Se reconoce al desarrollo de un pensamiento científico como el rasgo distintivo del hombre de ciencia; son expuestos los atributos de este pensamiento, así como las condiciones necesarias para su formación. Se recorre someramente el camino para la formación de hombres de ciencia, y se resalta la importancia de formar profesionales con pensamiento científico no solo para la ciencia misma sino también para el resto de las áreas de la vida en que se desenvuelven los seres humanos.

The objective of this article is to promote a reflection on the current training, in our context, of highly qualified researchers and the need and importance of assuming this effort from the perspective of "men of science" formation. The development of a scientific thought is recognized as the distinguishing feature of the man of science; this thought attributes are exposed, as well as the necessary conditions for its training. The process of training men of science is briefly explained, and the importance of training professionals with a scientific thought is highlighted not only for science itself but also for the rest of the areas of life in which human beings develop.
