Abstract

A prospective longitudinal was carried out in 60 patients affected by chronic simple glaucoma, bilaterally recurrent who were subjected to surgical treatment under the effects of surgical acupuncture analgesia (SSA) with and without pre-medication, with 30 patients each of them, from January to June 2001, with the aim of showing the effectiveness of SAA without pre-medication according to variables sex, age, personal pathologic antecedents and transoperatory results for ophtalmology and anesthesiology. Two needles No 28 of 1,5 cm were used in the points large bowel (Ig4) and triplefunction (TF5) coupled to a stimulatior with frequency of 10 Hz; the age group from 71 to 80 years, masculine sex and as personal pathologic antecedents, arterial hypertension. Results according to ophthalmology were good in the 100 % of patients with and without pre-medication, and in anesthesiology it was successful in 86, 67 % in both groups. All the operations were performed under microscopic control.
