PEDROSO GOVEA, Anaysi; GUIBERT TOLEDANO, Zoila Marlén and POZO ABREU, Silvia María. Evaluation of the quality of life of patients with symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee. Rev Cuba Reumatol [online]. 2022, vol.24, n.4 Epub Dec 01, 2022. ISSN 1817-5996.
Introduction:
The study of morbidity and the impact of the disease on lifestyle is known as quality of life measurement.
Objective:
To evaluate the level of quality of life of patients diagnosed with symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee.
Methods:
A descriptive, cross-sectional investigation was carried out in patients diagnosed with symptomatic knee osteoarthritis from the Reference Center for Rheumatic Diseases between November 2017-June 2020. The sample was made up of 213 patients, who were evaluated with the WOMAC index of quality of life.
Results:
In the age group of 55-64 years and severe disability, the highest frequency of cases was obtained (18.3%; 39). Patients with overweight and severe disability represented 28.2% (60). Those who had more than 5 years of evolution of the disease and severe disability prevailed (21.0%; 45). The highest percentage of patients presented with genu varus deformity and severe disability (29.6%; 63). There was a relationship between quality of life and sex, body mass index and the time of evolution of the disease.
Conclusions:
The intensity of the pain is related to an advanced radiological degree, while the quality of life is related to sex, the time of evolution of the disease and the body mass index.
