Carotid body tumors (paragangliomas) are highly vascularized, infrequent and generally benign neoplasms that emerge in the carotid body chemoreceptors. This is a male patient aged 54 years with increased right cervical volume, preoperative study and angiography by computerized tomography; the result was carotid body tumor. Subadventitial dissection was made for biopsy which yielded the diagnosis of paraganglioma. The tumor was completely excised, with no evidence of recurrence or complication.
