Abstract
DELGADO PADRON, Javier et al. Reaction of sugarcane cultivars to Puccinia kuehnii in Mayabeque for seven years. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2019, vol.34, n.3 Epub Dec 01, 2019. ISSN 2224-4697.
The objective of this work was to determine the reaction of sugarcane cultivars to orange rust at the Mayabeque-Artemisa Sugarcane Territorial Research Station in the 2012-2018 period. The disease evaluation was visually performed on the leaves every six months and diagnosed by optical microscopy. Uredospores were characterized by their color, shape and size. The individuals were grouped according to the presence of pustules on leaves 0 and +1, as well as the percentage of surface occupied by them. The reaction of the individuals to the fungus was determined on the leaf + 3 in ten plants. The commercial cultivars and sugarcane clones infected with the fungus had a slight tendency to increase. The disease manifestation was more severe in 2015 and 2016. Resistance to the disease was shown by 13 commercial cultivars (C86-56, C132-81, C334-64, C137-81, C88-380, B80250, B78503, C98-128, C98- 129, C86-251, C90-469, C1051-73, and C90-317). Six cultivars (C85-1, C88-523, C95-416, PR980, C89-559, and C89-147) displayed symptoms, whereas three of them (Co997, CP52-43, and C87-51) manifested instability in their behavior. Differences in the behavior of Puccinia kuehnii in the seven years of study indicate a differential expression in the host-pathogen-environment interaction.
