Abstract

A two year cross sectional analytic study was conducted to assess pain relief as obtained through intermittent thoracic epidural analgesia in patients with multiple rib fractures at the multiple injury service of the Manuel Ascunce Domenech, Camagüey. The sample was chosen from 50 patients. Arterial tension, cardiac and respiratory frequencies, and volume per minute were monitored. Analgesia quality was assessed, together with complications arising from the use of such a technique. Male patients under 39. Once the proceedings were followed, previously altered cardiovascular and respiratory parameters came back to normal. Complications were minor ones due to opiate.
