Abstract
PAZ CRUZ, Osiris Y; BENCOMO HERNANDEZ, Antonio A; BARRANCO PEREGRINO, Belkis and FERNANDEZ FRANCH, Neyda. Detection of antiplatelet autoantibodies by ELISA in patients with autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura. AMC [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.4, pp. 653-664. ISSN 1025-0255.
Background: the presence of antiplatelet autoantibodies of the IgG, IgA and IgM isotypes in patients with autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura, as well as the distribution of the immunoglobulin pattern associated with platelets during acute and chronic disease. Objective: to determine the presence of antiplatelet autoantibodies in patients with autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura. Method: the study was conducted through a direct qualitative ELISA in 100 patients. From them 66 with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, 47 classified as chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and 19 as acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. In addition 34 samples from patients with thrombocytopenia associated with malignant hemopathies and autoimmune diseases. Results: antiplatelet autoantibodies in the 86.6 % of patients in acute phase and in the 85.1 % of patients in chronic phase of the disease were detected. Negative results in all cases that were in remission of the disease were obtained. The autoantibodies of the IgG class were the most discovered. The IgM were more frequent in patients with acute disease and IgA in cases of chronic disease. Conclusions: this kind of ELISA is a useful novel method for the immunohematologic diagnostic of this disease, which may also detect all isotypes of autoantibodies involved in the immune destruction of platelets.
