ROJAS-VARGAS, Armando; RICARDO-RIVERON, Aymara; PENEDO-MEDINA, Margarita and OJEDA-ARMAIGNAC, Elaine. Nickel removing by electrocoagulation of the system Ni(II)-NH3-CO2-SO2-H2O with aluminum electrode. RTQ [online]. 2020, vol.40, n.2, pp. 393-412. Epub Apr 30, 2020. ISSN 2224-6185.
The nickel removal was studied by electrocoagulation of the Ni(II)-NH3-CO2-SO2-H2O system, content in the effluent liquor of nickel basic carbonate settler tank of the nickel producing plant by the Ammoniacal Carbonate Leaching Technology, in Punta Gorda, Cuba. A complete experimental design was carried out, with a central level and 3 replicas; and the factors current density, pH, temperature and electrolysis time. The initial nickel concentration was 660 mg/L; the volume of liquor, 500 mL, the pair of electrodes Al/Al, separated 10 mm, with an effective area of 4,6 · 10-3 m2. The most favorable conditions were achieved at 9,8 mA/cm2, 60 °C, pH = 8,65 and 40 min of electrolysis, for a 95% removal, specific energy consumption and the operating cost of 5,41 kW-h/kg Al and 712 $/t Ni respectively.
