This paper dealt with the automated drug information systems, taking into account the difficulties that the country has faced to assure the information about pharmaceuticals that are being used in the national healthcare system. It also described the condition of these systems worldwide in the light of the development of new information and communication technologies. Similarly, it detailed the Cuban experience in the advance and implementation of automated drug information systems and eventually, described prospective work with the introduction of a new informatic tool in the Virtual Library of Health.
