The study of knowledge attracts a growing number of specialists and increases interest in epistemology. This scenario has favored the formation of regional epistemologies, where it is possible to think about the epistemology of higher education. About it are exposed some theoretical considerations positioned in Must to be and foresight, aimed at avoiding reductionism and improving the exposition of scientific results. The proposed objectives are to present some arguments as to why empiricist reductionism should be avoided and why attention to language should be redoubled. The documentary methodology was used. Among the conclusions are: empiricist reductionism should be avoided because data alone do not provide accurate knowledge; increased attention to language leads to increased precision and coherence.
