Resumen

PLANA, Dagmara et al. Characterization of the sunspot in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) grown in Cuba. cultrop [online]. 2011, vol.32, n.3, pp. 36-41. ISSN 0258-5936.

The aim of this work was to identify the sunspot performance in tomato fruits (Solanum lycopersicon). A scale and an index that permits described the intensity and severity of sunspot damage. Additionally, we realized a histological, quality and nutritional study. The 80 percent of evaluated fruit was affected by sunspot, with law intensity but a maxim severity in the scale. The histological in healthy and damaged fruits show different between pericarp cell sizes and morphologic. The quality values not show affectations, but the lycopene concentration decreased in fruits with sunspot (92 to 74 µg/g). Results allow confirm the present of sunspot disorder, characterized by aberrant ripening and low lycopene concentration in the tomato shoulder fruits. These observations provide a basis for comparing sunspot in uniformly ripening tomatoes with other blotchy ripening disorders.
