Introduction:
The caregiver of the elderly, at the end of life, feels care needs often unsatisfied, as the elderly demands some more attention. Nursing theories suggest that this phenomenon should be analyzed based on nursing perspectives.
Objective:
To identify the care needs of the elderly’s family caregiver at the end of life, based on comfort theory.
Methods:
Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study carried out, from January 2017 to January 2019, in 14 de Junio Polyclinic of Diez de Octubre Municipality, Havana. The study universe was made up of 44 family caregivers of elderlies at the end of life. Sociodemographic variables and dependent variables in the psychospiritual, physical, environmental and social order were studied. To process and analyze the results, the weighted index was used from descriptive statistics.
Results:
Of the caregivers, 90.90% were women, 52.27% were over sixty years old, 58% were a wife or a husband, and 84.09% had a secondary school level. Needs affected in the dimensions studied were identified.
Conclusions:
Alterations were identified in the psychospiritual, physical, social and environmental dimensions. The caregivers reported fatigue, muscle aches and feelings of loneliness.
