A descriptive cross-sectional study of 2 793 adolescent students linked to the National System of Middle Level and Professional Polytechnic Education of Havana City was conducted aimed at exploring knowledge, attitudes and risk practices for HIV infection. The working instrument was applied invidually in a structured survey. 67,2% of the adolescents had an adequate knowledge about the way of transmission of the HIV, but not about the risks for HIV infection. It was also observed that they had not recieved a good sexual counselling. There were high risk sexual practices among the adolescent students, since 69,5% of those who had an active sexual life did not use condoms, 43,1% had had several sexual partners during that year and 24,9% had more than a partner simultaneously. The orogenital and genitoanal habits were referred to by 17,2% and 11,2% of the adolescents, respectively. The adolescents began sexual relations at an early age, with a mean age of 13,83 for males and 14,83 for females
