Resumen

MARRERO RIVERON, Luis Oscar et al. 99mTc-MIBI uptake in bone tumors: Comparative study with 99mTc-MDP. Rev Cubana Ortop Traumatol [online]. 1999, vol.13, n.1-2, pp. 6-18. ISSN 1561-3100.

A prospective study of 38 patients with tumorlike lesions of the skeleton (19 malignant tumors, 19 bening tumors and pseudotumorlike lesions) was conducted. These patients underwent Tc-MDP and Tc-MIBI scintigraphy at the Department of Nuclear Medicine of the “Frank País” International Scientific Orthopedic Complex between May, 1996, and April, 1997 (including both). The visibility of the lesions and the presence of intratumorlike necrosis and of metastasis were determined. The injured area/sound contralateral area (I/S) relation was calculated. By using 99mTc-MIBI it was posssible to visualize all the malignant lesions and only 2 of the bening and pseudotumorlike lesions. 7 intratumorlike necrosis and 9 patients with metastasis were detected. A sensitivity of 100%, a specificity of 89.5% and a diagnostic accuracy of 94.7% were obtained. It was concluded that 99mTc-MIBI is a radiopharmaceutical useful in the study of bone tumors.

Palabras clave : BONE NEOPLASMS [diagnosis]; BONE NEOPLASMS [radionuclide imaging]; RADIOPHARMACEU-TICALS [diagnostic use].
