Resumen

CESPEDES, Yuselinda; DEL POZO, E; GARCIA, Irma  y  MENDEZ, A. EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE ENTOMOPATHOGENIC FUNGUS Nomuraea rileyi (FARLOW) SAMSON AND ITS EFFECTIVENESS ON Spodoptera frugiperda J.E. SMITH. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2008, vol.23, n.3, pp. 176-182. ISSN 2224-4697.

The present work was developed with the objective of evaluating the effectiveness of the isolate Nr-003 of the entomopathogenic fungus N. rileyi (Farlow) Samson on S. frugiperda J. E. Smith larvae in laboratory. With a completely randomized design, with three repetitions, the effect of different temperatures: 22 ± 10C, 24 ± 30C, 27 ± 10C and 30 ± 10C on larvae mortality, the development of the fungus on the dead larvae, the conidial production and virulence of the isolate Nr-003 of N. rileyi were evaluated. Among the conditions assayed, there was an evident effect of temperature on S. frugiperda larvae mortality by the isolate Nr-003 of N. rileyi. The percentage of larval mortality, as well as the sick larvae and the virulence (TL50), were favored by lower temperatures. It was also demonstrated that the temperature and the inoculum concentration used did not have any effect on the conidial production on dead larvae surfaces.

Palabras clave : Nomuraea rileyi; Spodoptera frugiperda; virulence.
