Resumen
MONTOYA, A; MIRANDA, Ileana; RAMOS, Mayra y RODRIGUEZ, H. REARING OF Amblyseius largoensis (Muma) on Tetranychus tumidus (Banks) USING THE TRAY METHOD. Rev. Protección Veg. [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.3, pp. 191-194. ISSN 2224-4697.
With the aim of mass rearing the predatory mite Amblyseius largoensis, the rearing of this phytoseiid was evaluated using the tray method with the bean variety Fósforo - 40 as host plant and Tetranychus tumidus as prey under laboratory conditions. Bean seeds were planted and infested with T. tumidus 15 days after germination. After seven days, the mass rearing experiment was initiated. The infested bean leaflets were placed on the trays and 20 females of A. largoensis were released. The population increase per replica was determined 15 and 21 days after the predator was released and it was of 623,33 and 903,33%, respectively. It was demonstrated that A. largoensis could be mass reared on trays with a minimum of handling and adequate values of demographic parameters. These results show that the tray method whith T. tumidus as prey can be an alternative for the mass rearing of A. largoensis in the CREEs of the country.
