Resumen

GUIMARAIS VARONA, Félix; ESCOBAR DEL CAMPO, Martha; AGUIRRE DEL BUSTO, Hortensia  y  HERNANDEZ GOMEZ, Norma. Therapeutics and rehabilitation in patients with cystic fibrosis. AMC [online]. 1997, vol.1, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1025-0255.

A prospective, longitudinal study was carried out with children carriers of cystic fibrosis, assisted in the external service of Chronic Neumopathy in the Provincial Polyclinic of Pediatric Specialties of Camagüey, within a period of 6 months, with the aim of knowing the benefits this type of patients receive from respiratory physiotherapy alone or combined with bronchodilators and mucolytics. Most patients treated improved their respiratory function and increased their weight and height. There were no significant differences among the two therapeutic groups but it was proved the role of respiratory physiotherapy as the corner stone in the management of patients. The usefulness of the application of Schwachman´s test to evaluate the general and nutritional state of fibrocystic patients, as well as the role of spirometry for the assessment of the respiratory function is shown. The evolution and prognosis of these patients is improved with the use of the therapeutic methods accessible for us; and a better rate of pulmonary function was confirmed. Respiratory rehabilitation combined or not with bronchodilator or mucolytic agents prevents respiratory infection and at the same time the damaging of pulmonary function.
