A cross sectional study was performed for knowing smoking behavior in 35 years old population, assited at Ignacio Agramonte Polyclinic of Camagüey municipality during 1996, as a preliminary step for the constitution of a cohort which will be followed during 20 years, and it will study mortality due to smoking habit in the said population. The study universe rose to 6 591 subjects, to whom Cuban survey about Smoking habit and Health were applied. It was processed through automatically methods. Smokers prevalence was high (47 %), and very associated significantly, to masculine sex (65, 8 %) and to the presence of malnutrition by defect (24, 7 %), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (84, 1 %) petit ulcus (3, 8 %) and myocardial infarction (5, 5 %).
