Resumen
VARELA HERNANDEZ, Ariel et al. Cranioencephalic characterization mild trauma: Our experience. AMC [online]. 2005, vol.9, n.3, pp. 26-40. ISSN 1025-0255.
A cross-sectional, retrospective study of all patients admitted to both the neurosurgery service and the injury service of the Manuel Ascunce Hospital, City of Camagüey, was conducted during the year 2004. Patients who had been diagnosed whit craniocerebral injury above 12 points the Glasgow scale were subjected to variables such as Glasgows degradation sing, skull abnormalities as revealed through computarized tomography, neurosurgery, and death rate. Only those who died as a result of serious extraneurologic injuries were excluded. Sampling of 252 patients involved a poll regarding clinical records, distribution rate, and ratio hypothesis test. All of patients, 14 suffered from degradation of Glasgows sing, and 57, 14 % showed a Glasgow’s sing of 13 points. And out of 79 patients scanned whit computerized tomography, 75, 98 % showed abnormalities, 17, 06 % underwent neurosurgery, and 3, 57 % died. As it turned out, prognosis of patients whit craniocerebral injure based solely on Glasgows initial sign is not reliable. Multidimensional classification of such patients is a must and should include imaging.
