An observational descriptive study was conducted to assess functional exercise tolerance after respiratory rehabilitation among a group of COPD patients admitted to the A. Simoni teaching Hospital, city of Camagüey, from December 1st, 2001 to December 1st, 2002. The universe, made up of 53 patients, (of whom a 30-patient sample was taken according to inclusion and exclusion criteria) was subject to respiratory exercises such as diaphragmatic clearing, abdominal press reinforcement and contracted-lip respiration. Data gathering took place through polling, which became the primary definite registration. The 50-59 age groups prevailed (53, 33 %) and so did males (56, 66 %). Working-class patients (46, 66 %) together with patients who had smoked for more than 20 years (53, 33 %) prevailed and improved less after exercise performance. Though difficulty carrying load and climbing stairs were the main limitations before exercise sessions, improvement (73, 33 % and 66, 6 % respectively) was evident after exercise performance.
