An observational descriptive study was conducted at the Provincial Obstetrics and Gincecology Hospital from 1999 to 2004 to assess risk factors and complications for pregnancy and parturition as associated to fetal macrosomia. The universe amounted to 2 946 newborns babies with weigh equal to or over 4000 grams and the sample embodied 150 cases. The sources for primary data were the parturition registration book and clinical records. A poll designed to fit the research goal showed that 58, 7 % of women were aged 20-30 and 45, 3 % had a previous parturition. The prevailing pregnancy period was 39 to 40, 6 weeks. Parturition was eutocic in 70 % f cases. A newborns with a normal Apgar score was found in 98, 7 % of parturitions. Meconial amniotic fluid bronchial aspiration prevailed as a complication in 2, 7 % of newborns.
