A descriptive study to know the hypertensive response at effort in prehypertensive patients attended at the external consultation of internal medicine at "Manuel Ascunce Domenech" Hospital of Camagüey during the year 2005,was conducted. The universe was elevated to 40 patients, to which a survey was applied with variables selected according to bibliographical criteria, such as: age groups, risk factors, and hypertensive response at effort. Data were processed with the Microstat statistical program. The age group that predominated was the one of the 35-52 years with the 45.7 %; the risk factors with greater frequency were the smoking habit and the family pathological antecedent of premature cardiovascular illness, were presented; the mild pressor response at effort was the most frequent one with the 59.37 % and was presented in more than the half of the prehypertensive patients. The hypertensive response at effort was associated in a significant way to risk factors, was observed.
