Resumen

SANTANA TELLEZ, Tomás Noel et al. Value of sustained-weight test in the stratification of cardiovascular risk in pre-hypertensive patients. AMC [online]. 2013, vol.17, n.2, pp. 226-235. ISSN 1025-0255.

Background: pre-hypertension is an important risk factor; that is why its stratification and early evaluation is a key element. The sustained-weight test can contribute to such objectives. Objective: to evaluate the stratification of cardiovascular risk in pre-hypertensive patients attended at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital of Camaguey during 2010. Method: a cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted. The universe was composed of 167 patients that came to consultation. The sample included 53 patients that fulfilled the inclusion criterion. A form that included the necessary variables to conduct the investigation was designed. The variables were the following: cardiovascular risk factors, stratified cardiovascular risk, and clinical and hypertensive responses to the sustained-weigh test. The form constituted the primary record of the investigation. Results: there was an association of cardiovascular risk factors and more than the half of the patients presented an intermediate cardiovascular risk. More than the half of the patients presented a hypertensive response after been applied the test. It became more serious the clinical response after test as the cardiovascular risk increased. Conclusions: the sustained-weight test was useful for the stratification of cardiovascular risk.
