RODRIGUEZ-SALAZAR, Orlando Bismark; LEBRON-MATEO, Francis; FUENTES-DIAZ, Zaily y RODRIGUEZ-HERNANDEZ, Orlando. Evaluation of platelet-rich plasma for the healing of patients with dermal burns. AMC [online]. 2022, vol.26 Epub 05-Jun-2022. ISSN 1025-0255.
Introduction:
The application of personalized regenerative medicine in the healing process of the burned patient is a reality now. Platelets have changed their classic role in hemostasis, to that of sources of growth factors for the synthesis of new proteins, microbicidal activity, modulator of inflammation, favoring cell proliferation, synthesis of extracellular matrix and analgesic effect.
Objective:
To evaluate platelet-rich plasma for the healing of patients with dermal burns.
Methods:
An experimental study was carried out in patients with dermal burns at the Manuel Ascunce Domenech University Hospital in Camagüey’s province, from July 2018 to July 2020. From a universe of 200 patients, two treatment groups of 30 patients each one were selected, a study group with platelet rich plasma and a control group with conventional treatment. A homogeneous distribution of the groups was made according to age and sex.
Results:
From the initial evaluation at five days, a higher percentage of healing was observed in the group with platelet rich plasma, as well as a lower variation according to the standard deviation, the time to complete healing was lower in this group. Most of the patients did not present complications. The complications found were local.
Conclusions:
Platelet rich plasma guaranteed faster healing in dermal burns.
