RODRIGUEZ FERNANDEZ, Lisbet; SANTANA PEREZ, Felipe; CABRERA MARTINEZ, Víctor y TORRES MOYA, Roberto. Immune-reactive prolactin association and its bioactivity with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Rev Cubana Endocrinol [online]. 2009, vol.20, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-2953.
The association between the systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the prolactin level has been the aim of many papers in past years, and results show a high scattering in hyperprolactinemia frequency. We must to emphasize that most of researchers only are based on the determination of the immune-reactive prolactin in basal conditions. The aim of present paper is to determine the relation between the prolactin and the SLE by the determinations of immune-reactive prolactin as well as of biological activity of this hormone. Results achieved show that the above determination cannot be considered like an accuracy parameter for SLE diagnosis. In study female patients there was not hyperprolactinemia, thus it cannot be considered by itself in association with SLE, with cases in which yet with low levels of prolactin, and this condition is present. In contrast, the very high levels achieved for the prolactin bioactivity in these lupous patients compared to healthy patients, may to suggest a direct relation bioactivity with immune system, and thus, determination of this parameter may be very useful in the medical practice related to SLE.
