Resumen

CORDERO MARTIN, Dainy  y  ESPINOSA REYES, Tania Mayvel. Cardiometabolic risk factors in adolescents with family history of diabetes mellitus type 2. Rev Cubana Endocrinol [online]. 2020, vol.31, n.1  Epub 01-Ago-2020. ISSN 1561-2953.

Introduction:

Adolescents with family history of diabetes mellitus type 2 present a higher frequency of cardiometabolic risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing this condition. Under this hypothesis, this study was conducted.

Objective:

To identify cardiometabolic risk factors in adolescents with diabetes mellitus type 2 as a family background.

Methods:

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in adolescents with this background in a Family Doctor´s office belonging to ´´Luis A. Turcios Lima´´ Policlinic. Clinical, biochemical, image and related to lifestyle variables were explored.

Results:

40 adolescents were studied, 62.5 % of them were males. The 90 % had a history of other chronic non-communicable diseases in relatives of first and second degrees, with predominance of arterial hypertension. In relation to the lifestyle, there was a predominance of physical inactivity in the 45 %. 50 % was detected with abdominal obesity, 25 % with overweight/obesity, 15 % with acanthosis nigricans and 10 % with pre-hypertension. The 10 % showed dyslipidemia and the 30 % had non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which was related to the presence of acanthosis nigricans (p= 0,002) and high waist circumference (p= 0.024). The waist/height rate ≥ 0.50 was associated with the presence of acanthosis nigricans (p= 0.000), increased echogenicity of the liver (p=0.001) and hypertriglyceridemia (p= 0.000).

Conclusions:

A sedentary lifestyle, central obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, as well as family background of hypertension occurs with high frequency in adolescents with family history of diabetes mellitus type 2.
