Resumen
IGLESIAS DIAZ, Gladys et al. Giant diverticulum of bladder. A case report at "Bengo" Provincial Hospital, Popular Republic of Angola. Rev Ciencias Médicas [online]. 2012, vol.16, n.2, pp. 255-261. ISSN 1561-3194.
Vesical diverticulum matches with the protrusion of the mucosa trough a defect in the detrusor urinae muscle. According to the origin it is classified as congenital or acquired and constitutes a very rare entity leading to bladder stone, cancer of bladder, vesicoureteral reflux and urinary sepsis. A 78-year old patient attended to "Bengo" State Provincial Hospital (Popular Republic of Angola) in August 2010 presenting hematuria at ending urination, sensation of full-bladder and pain at the level of hypograstrium. A round, painful at deep palpation of the hypograstrium, a tumor of 15cms diameter lateralized to the left at rectal-prostate touch having normal size and consistency was found at physical examination. The abdominal echography showed a giant diverticulum of bladder; the rest of the renal system was normal. Diverticulectomy was performed through retropubic approach, not detecting prostatic hypertrophy. No complications were observed during postoperative period, the patient was asymptomatic at the time this article was written. The low incidence of this entity and the size of diverticulum motivated the report of this case.
