Introduction:
there is an increasingly aging population and with it, a raise in non-communicable chronic diseases, among them Chronic Kidney Disease stands out for its asymptomatic evolution in the first stages, which constitutes a challenge for the family doctor.
Objective:
to establish the historical background and current situation of the professional performance and upgrading courses for the family doctor on Nephrogeriatrics in primary health care.
Method:
an exploratory study was conducted. A documentary review was carried out as an empirical method; applying procedures of logical thinking, induction-deduction and analysis-synthesis.
Results:
there are deficiencies in the care of nephrogeriatric patients basically due to insufficiencies found in the upgrading courses; the modes of acting that must be integrated for a better management of Nephrogeriatrics from the primary health care were identified.
Conclusions:
the historical background and current situation of family doctor performance along with professional upgrading courses on Nephrogeriatrics in primary health care are established; defining the professional modes of acting for the family doctor on Nephrogeriatrics.
