DIAZ-RODRIGUEZ, Yuletsis et al. Biofiltration of Cuban natural gas in organic support with active mud. riha [online]. 2016, vol.37, n.2, pp. 68-78. ISSN 1680-0338.
The use of Cuban natural gas is affected by its high concentration of hydrogen sulfide. This leads to a search of new treatment options as biological processes and the use of natural, renewable and degradable resources to that end. In order to evaluate the kenaf fiber as a support material on a biotrickling filter with active mud, for the desulfurization of the natural gas, physico-chemical characterization of the fiber and hydrodynamic tests were performed. The effectiveness was evaluated by microbial growth and a removal efficiency greater than 80% for different concentrations of this contaminant. These results proved that the kenaf vegetal fiber possesses satisfactory properties thus making available an efficient material support in biotrickling filters for Cuban natural gas desulfuration.
