RAMIREZ CALIXTO, Carmita Yisela; ARTEAGA ROLANDO, Mary América y LUNA ALVAREZ, Heriberto Enrique. Visual perception and linguistic abilities in the reading process. Conrado [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.72, pp. 178-181. Epub 02-Feb-2020. ISSN 1990-8644.
This research was conducted to determine the level of performance in visual perception and language skills presented by third-year students in basic education, from a particular educational unit in the city of Guayaquil; based on accuracy and reading speed. The methodology used was descriptive and documentary. The techniques of direct observation and the application of psychometric tests were used to collect the information. The results of the visual perception test mostly reflected average and low performance, with a minimum percentage of high performance. With the PROLEC-R test it was found that students in general, respond with greater speed when they are presented with words whose meaning is known, as well as, they make fewer mistakes in reading real and known words than in pseudowords; while considering the syllabic structure, it is difficult for them to read words with compound syllables. In conclusion, the recognition of words within the lexical processes is considered as the most specific of the reading, due to the processes of global visual fixation and that stand out in the acquisition of the reading ability, in terms of accuracy and speed.
