This paper highlights the historical trends of high school Physical Education teachers' improvement in Colombia. The objective is to assess the historical evolution of professional development and level of professional skills attained by Physical Education high-school. The historical-logical, inductive-deductive and analytical-synthetic methods were used based on the use of the following indicators: the policies established for the improvement of teachers; the ways instituted for the improvement of teachers; how the improvement of Physical Education teachers is designed; the educational models for the teaching of Physical Education and the improvement professional competences in the Physical Education in Colombia. The main finding is the identification historical trends mentioned above, describing the level of development achieved in each period and the features that characterized the professional performance of teachers at all times.
