Objective:

This paper aims at the description of an epidemiological education model that enables medical students to face pandemics.

Methods:

The authors rely on a descriptive study following the quantitative-qualitative paradigms and systematized through the analysis-synthesis, observation, and functional structural systemic methods.

Result:

The main finding is a model of the epidemiological education of medical students describing the connection between contents, cultural function, context, and the dynamics of the epidemiological training, following a comprehensive approach to medical school education in correspondence with social demands.

Conclusions:

It was possible to establish interdisciplinary, systemic, and institutions relationships in correspondence with the social determinants of health in the diversity of training scenarios, enabling graduates to fulfill their functions in facing the epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19.
