Human security is a very broad concept in which various factors must be considered, within which the right to a safe habitat is fundamental. By 2010, Ecuador has a total population of 14'483,499 inhabitants, of which 62.7% live in cities and according to INEC projections will increase to 64% in 2020, so it is of vital importance to study the issues related to orderly urban growth in balance with the environment, which allows the sustainable development of population centers. In this sense, the present study aims to argue the need to guarantee the right to the city and an adequate and dignified housing to contribute to achieving human security in Ecuador.
