ALONSO BERENGUER, Isabel; GORINA SANCHEZ, Alexander; PEREZ SILVA, Rosa María y FIGUEROA RODRIGUEZ, Jenny. Evaluation of pertinence and scientific impact of research results in Cuban universities. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.4, pp. 325-334. Epub 02-Sep-2019. ISSN 2218-3620.
Scientific research is considered one of the key processes of university management, whose mission is to promote the sustained growth of science and technological innovation in each institution, in a way that allows it to achieve national and international recognition, while at the same time strengthen the university-society link, hence the need to systematically monitor its impact. The objective of the present work was the development of an index to measure the pertinence and scientific impact of the research results of Cuban universities, as a basis for evaluating their management. To this end, a methodology was conceived that integrated qualitative and quantitative methods. As a result, indexes were obtained to assess the pertinence and contributions made to scientific impact by publications, awards, intellectual property and scientific training; as well as a general index that allows measuring the pertinence and the scientific impact. The calculation of all of them was automated through a calculus sheet of Excel. It was concluded that the use of the proposed methodology provides a valuable tool to systematically monitor the pertinence and scientific impact of the research results.
