The article analyzes the effects of international migration on family fragmentation in the social imaginary of young people between 18 and 24 years old, sons and daughters of emigrants, and the possibilities of reconfiguring their family and social ties in a context of socialization transnational, after the financial debacle of the late twentieth century in Ecuador. The methodology was qualitative-quantitative. A total of 385 women and men were surveyed between 18 and 24 years of age and 19 semi-structured interviews were conducted in depth. The method of support was the Abductive that allowed to infer in the narration the most significant signifiers. The surveys specified some percentages. Emigrated 43% of parents, 30% of mothers. 60% of the grandparents and grandmothers supported the upbringing and it was fundamental in the reconfiguration of the bonds. However, the respondents consider that they had many difficulties: emotional 51%, school 17%, family 12%, health 7%, friends and classmates 3%. In the interviews it was concluded that the children of the emigrants lived the emigration as a great loss, a traumatic event that has had psychosocial effects in their lives until now.
