ALARCON ORMAZA, Joubert y CRISTINA RECALDE, Ana. Prevalence of microfilariae in canis lupus familiaris that are treated at the veterinary clinic Animals Inc. Universidad y Sociedad [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.5, pp. 454-459. Epub 02-Dic-2019. ISSN 2218-3620.
The objective of the investigation is to determine the prevalence of the larva L3 in the blood of dogs. A descriptive and retrospective statistical analysis was carried out to determine the prevalence of circulating microfilariae in blood. The technique that was used was the Woo Test, the micro hematocrit technique, after taking the venous blood sample. This blood is placed in a capillary, the plasticine is included in the lower part, then it is inserted into the centrifuge at 3500 rpm in a time of five to ten minutes and after this, microfilariae are observed in the intracellular space of the plasma. From a sample of 131 dogs analyzed, 3 were positive, 3 of them, giving us a prevalence from the month of June to August of 2.29%. Of the 3 positive patients, two patients were Doberman and one was a Boxer. The general prevalence from the month of January to August was 2.77% and it is a very low prevalence due to the sample size, time, climatic factors added to the predisposition of the hosts and the behavior of the vector.
