Universities constitute scientific social communities that constantly develop innovation, technological, research and scientific projects as part of their processes. Information is a fundamental resource in the development of these processes for the generation of new knowledge. Cuban Higher Education demands the postgraduate training of teachers and specialists prepared in the domain of informational skills for the use of scientific information as a key factor for scientific development. That is why the objective of this article is to explain the social impact of the development of information skills in doctoral students applying information technologies in scientific research. The development of informational skills in doctoral training significantly impacts society from the application of technology to achieve research purposes, and influences the successful development of the substantive processes of universities (training, research, extension, production) and with it in higher education systems.
